Locals are on spot beams that only go to the geographic area of the station. There is no way to get San Diego locals in Virginia.

Can't Get Locals after Installation Address Change
All of the sudden I lost my locals so I checked my account on DirecTV's website and found out that DirecTV "automatically" changed my installation address from Virginia to San Diego, CA. My first thought was "Cool!, now I can watch the locals from San Diego and get my Midlothian, VA locals OTA". But I can't get it to work. I did the box set up, entered the San Diego zip code but after it's all done when I try to view one of the San Diego locals I get a message about the "Program not available in your area."
Is it possible to make it work? I know I eventually need to change my address back but I'd like to wait a few days.

Spot beams have roughly a 200-300 mile radius in most areas. YMMV
Thanks guys. I guess I'll just have to contact DirecTV to change the installation address back.
