I've removed the signal enhancer from tuner 2 and still nothing. when i record and try to change the channel it tells me both tuners are in use. very frustrating

Signal Enhancer?
You must mean the B-Band converter.

After you take it off... you may have to reboot the box, as the unit may think it no longer sees a signal on tuner two and it disabled it.

I did that several times today in fact, while recording/watching one college football game and checking out several others during commercial breaks.

Happened to me too a few times in the past.. a red reset push fixes it right up.
