Can't transfer to external HD

Just got a new hard drive (Maxtor 750). Hooked it up. Fine, 722 recognized it. Formatted it. Got it activated. Then moved several two hour HD programs over. Worked fine. Everything OK so far. Tried viewing one of the programs now on the external drive. OK.

But here is my problem. I cannot move any more programs over to the external drive. An error message flashes on the screen. This is when I started chasing down the problem and a solution. I could still watch programs from the external drive. I could move those programs back to the internal drive (but the programs also still stay on the external drive). I did a hard reboot of the receiver. This did not solve the problem. Since the programs are now also on the internal drive I tried deleting them from the external drive. Won't do it.

It boils down to this; that I can read from the external drive but cannot write to it. Any ideas?

I use the Maxtor 750gig One Touch drive without any problems. Did you also power down/up the disk drive?
Hmmm something is not right here. When you move a show form the internal hard drive to your EHD the program should be deleted. IF this is not happening something is not right.

What type of drive are you using?

At the beginning when everything seems to have been working, that is what happened. After sending the file(s) to the EHD, they were no longer on the internal HD.

It seems to be working now. The only check I've made so far is that I was able to successfully delete one of the programs now on the EHD (which I could not do). I'll try moving more programs from the internal to the external later this evening.

Not sure what the trick was. This is what I did; removed power from the EHD for a good 15 seconds or so and plugged it back in. I did a check and found that the drive was not being recognized. I then pulled the plug of the receiver for about 15 seconds and plugged it back in. After the boot-up and the TV picture came back I checked for the USB drive and it was recognized. Using the Manage Drive function I was able to delete a program. I'm sure it is back to normal.

Thanks for the suggestion of powering down the HD.
