Hi all,
Quick question. Can I cascade a SWM8 from a WB616?
Currently I have 11HDDVRs and my switches are a SWM16 and a WB616. The WB616 is cascaded from the legacy ports off of the SWM16.
I am thinking of adding a SWM8 and figured it would be easier to run it off 4 ports from the WB616 rather than splitting the inputs coming from the dish and then into the SWM switches.
I am thinking of adding an HR34.

11 HD DVRs equals 22 tuners. HR34 equals 5 tuners. 27 tuners total between them. SWM16 and WB616 equals 32 tuners. It would seem you could add two HR34's and still have enough tuner capacity without adding an SWM8.

That is assuming I have dual coax runs everywhere and would want to move receivers currently on the SWiM16 over to the WB616. My SWiM16 is at capacity and the HR34 works on SWiM only. The WB616 is barely being used. Now that I think about it, I might swap out the WB616 for a WB68 (I have lots of old equipment in storage). I want to keep a few receivers on the "old" switches because they just work. SWiM can be finnicky sometimes.

What you propose should work. I am personally not a fan of cascading. I run a WB68 and an SWM8 in parallel using dual port power passing splitters. In your case, you might consider running two SWM16's in parallel and simply use the legacy ports to feed your non-SWM equipment.

I used to split the inputs from the dish into each switch. I was trying to get to the bottom of some issues I have been experiencing recently. One of the things I tried was to remove the splitters and cascade the WB616 off of the SWiM16. I still have the splitters and I can just split the incoming satellite coax again, this time to the SWiM16 and SWiM8, leaving the WB616 cascaded off of the SWiM16.
