Decided to post this in a new thread as it is really off topic in the original thread. Hope that is OK. Got a great deal today on the HR34. Very happy. Now some Qs Currently my HR21 is hard wired thru ethernet to the internet and also to my HR20. With this new HR34 should I leave the ethernet cable for the tech to use OR go ahead and get a wireless router and just do it wirelessly? Is there any advantage to hardwiring to the CCK as opposed to wireless? Basic questions but I am a little vague on this hookup. Thanks

Most techs will insist on a CCK as it is how they are trained. The tech can use the ethernet and just insert the CCK instead of connecting to the receiver. You can also hardwire the HR34 and disconnect the other receiver from ethernet the 34 will bridge them. You will see no difference in either connection but I would not do a wireless CCK if you have the ethernet already there.

My install will include upgrading to a SWM as I have the old 4 cable system now. It will also include Whole Home(or whatever they call it now). Currently I have everything connected and Whole Home using Cat5 cable. I was just wondering since the install will move Whole Home to coax(Deca?) could the tech use the Cat5 that is at HR34 location or would it be better if I just got a wireless router for the house and he would connect that way. It makes no difference to me since the Cat5 is already there.

Hardwire is the best bet especially since its already in place. I'd just go with that and save the cost of wireless. Remember this is just to have access to the internet for VOD and other internet related stuff the receivers use.

A little dense on my part, but I think I now understand. By connecting the Cat5 to the HR34, the HR34 could act as the "CCK" and since my other HR will now be connected thru the SWM it will get its internet connection that way. Is this correct...

You're currently Cat5.
The HR34 can bridge between Cat5 and DECA, so the other receivers will need to have DECA to be connected.

I am assuning "DECA" is part of converting to SWM. On my workorder there is a line..."MRV install". Also on the workorder are "Cinema Connection Kit" and "VCONWifiDeca" in addition to the "DIRECTV Home Media Center HD DVR" all with "Professional Installation". The retention CSR was informed that I currently DO NOT have SWM(several times) and that a conversion to SWM was to be included. Just trying to verify before the tech arrives on Sunday he has everything necessary. Thanks for all help....

"Generally" it sounds like you'll be fine. You'll need to have DECA adapters added to your current receivers. DECA needs a SWiM system to free up the frequency band it uses on the coax, but isn't part of the SWiM.

Does anyone know when upgrading from a 4 wire to a SWM system, will the tech re-use the cable runs or use new cable?

I believe they try to re-use existing cables as long as they are up to par.
