Ch 95 NFL-Network: BEWARE TONIGHT!

3382 Views 45 Replies 26 Participants Last post by  hasan
Last week at the same time as tonight's game, several of us experienced some very bad behavior of our boxes AFTER having watched the HD football game on channel 95.

If anyone besides me watches/records the game, would you please pay special attention to any signficant malfunction that follows the game. Examples include:

1. Very slow channel changing (after the game)

2. A bunch of missed recordings

3. etc.

PLEASE DON'T POST A RESPONSE TO THIS THREAD IF YOU ARE NOT INVESTIGATING THE CH 95 PHENOMEMON!

This is not a thread for "I had something like that happen on Show-HD last night"...quite frankly, I don't care. I'm only interested to see if the problem that was caused by Ch 95 last week is repeatable. Thanks.

Let the games begin!

I have bravely scheduled the game to record on 95. I used the guide to set the recording. I watched it last week with no side effects (hear that sound? It's me knocking on wood).

Thanks! Let's hope. As you know I have had very, very few problems with the box in nearly 10 weeks now...BUT, after watching/recording this game last week, I had to do a red button reset (my first and only) to get my channel changing speed back...and it has stayed at high speed since then. No updates since then, normal use since then, the only thing that (I can identify) that will have changed is this game tonight.

Ahhhh...such a grand experiment!

N.B. tonight I will be doing something slightly different. I'll be watching a pre-recorded movie with the wife, while the game is being recorded, so I won't be "perfectly" duplicating what I did last week, which was to watch and record the game at the same time, while doing nothing else. I hate to introduce another confounding variable, but I have to keep peace in the family.
Can I report Bryant Gumbel as a bug. I have an overwhelming desire to rip my ears off my skull after listening to this guy.
I chickened out, I am watching/recording it on the HR10...:D

Hasan,

I am watching and recording at the same time. Additionally, I watched the pre-game show buffered which "blended" into the game (I'm almost live now) which is being recorded as I catch up to it. Recording started at 8 ET as I set the recording from the guide with no pad. I'll keep you posted on the results.

I will take this time to apologize for my post on the other thread. I am just sick of HDTVfan and his antics. I didn't mean to be too harsh, but you do have that "let's all get along" attitude, and he definitely invites the harsh responses.
I'm watching the game live.
FYI that I recorded an NHL game off 95 earlier this week. I reset yesterday due to slow guide and system but then I've had slowness issues since my MPEG4 locals got activated as well as getting the latest software (happened on the same day).
Because of the issues people had last week (I didn't have any issues after watching it), I purposely set it to record on my local channel instead of 95. Obviously not everyone has this option.
Watched 1st hour checked other recordings that occured they look fine as well as channel changes et

Agreed...this is the only problem I am having but I guess this isn't the point of the OP.

on that note, I've decided to mute the TV and listen to the game on Sirius while I'm watching.
I am watching only and no problems, last weeks game recorded and played back fine for me.
I don't understand why Mr. Gumbel is so "annoying", but he has the same effect on me....I just cringe every time he talks. I like Collingsworth quite a bit, too bad we can't kareoke out Mr. G.

I'll report what happens later or early tomorrow a.m.
I set the game to record from the Guide this evening then went and took my daughter to soccer practice (the Select soccer season never ends . . . ). We got home to find my wife watching old CSI repeats from Spike while the game started and several shows had recorded completely. She just went into the bedroom and I tried out the game - it appears to have worked fine this week (*) - I FF'd and skipped-to-tick all the way through to real-time now and I am having no problems.

(*) Last week, recording this channel started a rash of 10 unwatchables in a row, solved only by a red-button reset.
Watched most of it, and stopped the recording (bored). Not a problem/issue in the aftermath. Deleted the game, and now watching it real time. Channel changing does seem a sec slower, but that could be perception not reality.
Sounds like someone is squeezing Gumbel's cohones.

NFL Network has a LONG LONG LONG way to go, to improve their broadcasts.
Gumble is not the right guy for the job

I thought the HD feed was very clear/clean, on the upside, for the time I watched.

The "HD" was better then last week... but I mean the overall feel of the "graphics", layout, presentation
