Our HD locals are up. Hooray! (Almost...)

As I was scanning through the channels, I see that 17 (NBC), 20 (ABC) and 55 (FOX) are the only ones in HD. I would have thought, at the very least, that our local CBS station (3) would be in HD as well. However, it is only coming through at 480i. That is extremely disappointing...

Anyone from our area know what the deal is? Contract dispute???

Directv is giving us (9) Digital Feeds for the area. Not all the Digital feeds are 720p or 1080I, some are 480P. All the channels will give you at least Dolby Digital 2.0, and a lot of the HD programing is coming in Dolby Digital 5.1-- I think we got a lot more than most areas. Fox, CBS, NBC, ABC, (3) PBS's, CW, and MNT :)

Because they are NOT being uplinked by D* in HD - they are only SD duplicates on the MPEG4 birds, in preparation of locals ALL being moved over to the MPEG4 birds, when D* removes all SD locals from the 72.5 bird. All new installs in our market will be with Slimline dishes & MPEG4 receivers (either SD or HD), so those will no longer need the 2nd 72.5 dish. But until D* upgrades ALL SD customers in our market to new MPEG4 SD equipment, they cannot remove ANY of the 72.5 SD locals, so they will not be going anywhere until later.
But by the same token, if D* EVER gets off it's a$$ & starts putting up the PBS stations in HD, then some of these will then change to HD feeds as well - hell I'm STILL waiting on the Chicago local PBS HD feed!

I mentioned this same problem in the other thread. DirecTV's website does list channel 3 as being available in HD in our area. I am puzzled why they list that, but only broadcast it in 480i.

From the WCIA Chief Engineer..

We've been having problems with our digital STL receiver at the WCFN transmitter site in Springfield. Since DirecTV built their central receive site in Springfield, and Champaign is 90 miles away, they have to use our 1.8 kW DTV signal from WCFN-DT for WCIA (SD and HD).

At this time we are troubleshooting the STL receiver and I am waiting on a loaner from Microwave Radio Corp.

DirecTV has been in contact with us regarding the lack of HD. They tell us that there is some switch or setting that they have to make in Los Angeles to enable our station to be in HD. I don't understand it, but no one from their technical department has bothered to contact me.

They told our GM that we are a "unique" situation... this from the same guys who built their receive facility 90 miles away from our analog transmitter a few years ago and couldn't understand why they couldn't receive us.
