change default from all to once?

I'm using a 625, but this should be applicable to other dvrs.
Is there any way to make the default setting (when creating a timer) on series shows to be on "once" instead of "all".
I know I can choose it by selecting "once" for each series timer.
Why is the default "all"?
(I could see maybe a default as "new".)
But how many people really actually want "all" (that frequently)?
There should be a way to change the default,
so it is already selected for the choice the user wants most often.

I'd like to know this. My wife is constantly recording ALL of Nancy Grace, when she only meant one show. She's used to TiVo, which has a default of one show.
Nope the dvr defaults to all every time unless the program is a special event. I sometimes wonder if some guy at an uplink somewhere laughs every time someone sets a timer for all episodes of "Paid Programming".
I imagine they go with the defualt that will cause the least grief if you screw up. If it was defualted to once and you wanted all and forgot to switch from the default you could miss several shows before realizing it. If you wanted only once and fogot to switch to all than you would probably realize it after the second or third one taped and you could delete them, no harm no foul. It's still work but it is easier to delete something you didn't want than to NOT record something you DID want.

Just my 2 cents.

Heck, I gotta think he'd laugh is someone set a timer for one episode of "Paid Programming."
No I don't think there is way to change the default. Actually, it does do somethings smart as in if it is a movie or a sports program it will default to Once. Also changes the padding to 60 minutes. (This is what happens in the 722 so I assume it is the same in the 625).

I think the reason All is the default is what dbrakob said. It is the most conservative choice and the box tends to lean towards recording more shows over the possibility of missing some. I personally have most of my timers set to All just incase the AIR date was to be wrong I would rather it record it than miss it because of a bad guide date.

I also have a lot of New timers but if it is a show I would really be annoyed by missing an episode I keep it at ALL to be safe.
The start and end time of a timer is by default 1 minute early and 2 minutes late, but at least it gives you the choice to change it and set the new choice to default. I think it would be cool to allow us to set all timer options to our own choice.

Actually on the 622, at least, you can change the start and end time defaults.

That's what I said. It would be nice to have the choice to set your own defaults on all aspects of a timer.
