I was looking for some help, trying to get the best setup for the least $$$... meaning, setup whole home or move receivers... I am technical but there is a lot of info I don't know and would prefer not to burn any equipment by the uh-oh process... I have a service contract with Direct but would prefer not to lose any of my recordings, and both are nearly full, assuming Direct doesn't say that's not covered, and tells me ill just have to eat the cost since its my goof...

I have 3 receivers - a r10, a hr22-100, and a hr24-100

They are currently in 3 separate rooms, I would like to put the 2 HD PVR's in the living room as I only have one HD TV and rarely if ever watch tv in the bedroom, or study... so looking for the best way to do this, weither it be whole home, changing multiswitches or equipment, or getting direct out to do it... One thing to note, I don't do roofs, so me working on the dish is out - I about lost it last time I was up, and don't need any injuries...

I have a fairly new Dish, not sure which make or model but its oval and has 4 RG6 cables from the dish, they are connected to a Zinwell 6x8 multiswitch, it shows 5 Sat's (99 and 101, then 103, 110, and 119 at 22khz) I use 6 of the current outputs - 2 to each receiver.

My first thoughts was to just order whole home, but Direct wont budge off the cost to get it installed... $200...

Any thoughts to getting both hd pvr's setup in the living room without running more cable (the last installer had all sorts of issues getting the 2nd coax in for the current receiver...), thoughts on what I can change to get whole home setup myself OR should I just pay the $200 to get it done..

Thanks in Advance for your time!

Get rid of the Zimwell, and bet a SWM-8 multiswitch instead.

This will allow you to use the DVR's with only one coax (each). You'll need a DECA for the HR21. I don't know anything about the R10, it might not even be SWiM compatible.

easiest would be to drop the r10 and SWiM it + add MRV (ie: pay for the upgrade)

i have 2 HD DVR's on my LR tv, 1 cable on the cable outlet to a 2way splitter to both HD DVRs, and those are run to HDMI 1/2

if you already have 2 lines in, could just use 1 on each HDDVR

to do it with legacy you would need 4 lines behind the tv, 2 to each HD DVR

Yes this all you need. Not sure why D* would want to charge you $200 for a SWM8 plus 1 Deca. Seems like they should do it for $49 install fee only if you were willing to do MRV and add the $3 monthly charge.

I guess they really are squeezing their nickels.

Actually, easiest would be to swap out the Zinwell with a SWM8 like mentioned. The R10 gets hooked to the legacy ports. The 2 DVRs get put in the same room and since they are now on SWM, they each use one of the two coax cables there already. A DECA is attached to the HR21 and MRV is turned ion, although it will most likely be considered unsupported since DirecTV did not do the install. The only costs will be for the SWM8 and PI and the DECA. If the OP wants Internet access, they will also need to pay for a CCK.

Thank You for the Great Responses, I will order a SWM8, does it matter where I order from, or stick with a authorized D* Dealer?
The hardware is the same regardless of where you get it.
Now if you have DirecTV install it, it then gets your account updated to reflect it, which can makes things easier later if you want to add new things or have a service call, since your account reflects what you really have.
