New 26 to 32" lcd flat panels that are HD capable cost 499.99 and less if you look around. I'd get a new tv, because they will give you HD, and are probably going to take less power than your current old CRT, plus, if its been used a lot, the brightness and contrast are loosing steam, and it isn't what it used to be. 18 years is a good life for a crt tv... if not, the only other thing I can suggest is to try every code in the book.....

Your other option is to buy an inexpensive universal remote, taht will learn commands... then you can teach it from the original remotes if it isn't preprogramed...

I just thought of one other thing you could do... Its a bit out there, but hey... Take your original remote into a couple tv stores, like bestbuy, Sears, and if you have any more specialized stores that carry more brands, and see if you can turn on and off any tv's in their showrooms... If you can, then you can use that brands codes... You never know. Someone else could have been designing that tv and software for mits when it was built....
