Comcast Sportsnet Mid-Atlantic Blackout Q?

1926 Views 15 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  CoachGibbs
I just added the sports package mainly so I can watch this channel. I thought blackouts only applied to games, but I'm getting ******* Nation and Sportsnite blacked out too. I do get to watch the Washington Post Live show.

Anyway, are these supposed to be blacked out. Is there something wrong with my setup. And will the Skins pre and post game shows also be blacked out?

PS: I'm out of market obviously.

PSS: Sorry if this has been asked before.

Only if a game ran late would the blackout still be in effect. I watch the pre and post game shows on many RSNs, also their daily highlight shows.

If I get the pre and post game shows I'll be happy. I guess I'll find out tomorrow night. :)

Still would be nice to get sports nite to watch more coverage of the Wiz, Caps, Nats and O's.

I've never seen the CSN highlight show blacked out. I watch them in the morning to supplement the ESPN highlights
I've seen full length NATs games NOT blacked out on MASN.
Maybe it was just a glitch last night. Or I need to check some of my other receivers. Thanks for the replies.
I've seen about a dozen or so games this summer in the open on MASN.There were also games that were blacked out I noticed.
Redskins nation is always blacked out and will continue to be. This week they've messed up and blacked out the Sportsnite following it. Hopefully they get it together soon and fix it.

Okay, that's what I was seeing. That's good to hear. Having those shows makes me feel like I'm back in DC. I was really looking forward to sportsnite.

Why is it "always blacked out and will continue to be"?
Redskins Nation has been blacked out consistently since about a month or so after it came "on air". It sucks IMHO....especially since there are other NFL team related shows NOT blacked out on the RSN's....but, hey, nothing I can do about it since it's a CSN/NFL issue. I actually e-mailed CSN about it back when it started and asked why...and was given an answer...but I can't remember the EXACT wording or anything along those lines.

In addition, to the original poster--- the pre-game shows have been blacked out for me in the past...but the post-game coverage is ALWAYS available. I haven't tried tuning in to/recording the pre-game shows since I noticed they were blacked out...so maybe they aren't blacked out anymore now ?!?!?

I still record Redskins Nation EVERY DAY on my HR21 but it's obviously "not there" when I go into my play list. Back when I used to record the show with my SD D* DVR I'd find a nugget here and there where it WOULD be available/not blacked out...but since I switched over to the HR21 it's NEVER available/viewable.

There are other Redskins related things that have been blacked out recently as well---I believe the HOF coverage on CSN was blacked out back in August for me in NJ as well.

Thank you for taking the time to write Comcast SportsNet.

Due to NFL regulations, the network is required to black out Redskins
Radio outside of our footprint, which includes Maryland, Washington,
D.C., Virginia and parts of Delaware, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
That show is subject to blackout regulations because it contains game
footage.

The network is able to distribute Redskins Post Game Live to the entire
Comcast SportsNet viewing area and you should be able to view that
program after every Redskins game this season.

Please continue to send us your comments. And thank you for watching
Comcast SportsNet.
I believe at the time the show was called "Redskins Radio"...but it's now called "Redskins Nation".
People outside NY state are saying that "Yankees Magazine" is always blacked out.All of a sudden last year,"Shark Byte" is blacked out on CSN Bay area.I guess now sports magazine shows are blacked out too ?
So far Raiders Report and Raiders Press Conference are still in the clear for me in Ohio, but I remember one time seeing Mike Tomlin's press conference on FSN Pittsburgh being blackout even.

Games will only be available in the market the RSN serves.

Some non-game programming will also be blacked out, especially programs that show game coverage. Apparently, the RSNs license various shows and these licensed typically only cover local coverage. These programs can be shown outside the local area, but a more expensive license (for national coverage) must be paid to the league, and most RSNs don't want to pay extra. That is what has been explained to me about non-game blackouts.

Example - Yankees games are blacked out on YES if you live outside the NY DMA. If you pay for MLB Extra Innings, you can watch the game on YES.

Other YES programming will be open (such as Yankees On Deck and Centerstage, neither of which show game footage), but some programs, such as The Joe Girardi Show and Yankees Magazine (that both show footage from previous games) are blacked out.

I believe the reason is that Comcast would have to pay more for national rights.
