i already have directv with an extra receiver in another room, i am wanting to get another room" receiver" for my daughter, would this require an extra commitment to my whole account or just for that extra receiver

does that mean i have to keep my older receiver in my bedroom? like if i canceled my older receiver in my bedroom i would be charged extra?

If I'm reading you correctly, you have 2 receivers now, and want to add a third in another room?

The "commitment" is for the account. When you change programming or add additional services/receivers, the commitment "resets" for the account.

It would be for your account. It's the same difference, really, since the new receiver would be leased and therefore tied to your account.
so that means if i did not want my older receiver in my bedroom anymore i would be charged extra for discontinuing the service just to that receiver?

No, you can turn it off but you will need to return it to DIRECTV if it is a leased unit. If it is a owned unit you can keep it.

The contract only comes into play if you want to cancel your service.

I think everytime you call directv for anything, you get a new 2 year commitment, and they add sunday ticket to your account, and a phantom non return fee for equipment you never had that you failed to return. I gleem this information from the repeated posts here. I wonder why DTV can't figure that out, or I guess that is the way they want it.

im know this sounds stupid but how do you know if you own or lease the receiver?

You can usually tell by looking at your monthly statement. If it shows a "lease" fee for the receiver, it is leased. If it shows a "mirror" fee, then it is owned. You can also confirm by calling DIRECTV.

EDIT: Here's an example from my statement. As you can see, one receiver is leased, the other owned. The owned receiver shows as "Additional Receiver".
06/16 Additional Receiver 4.99
06/16 Leased Receiver 4.99

dissturbbed,

I'd like to add my Welcome to DBSTalk! :welcome_s

Just to clarify, the commitment that is made when adding new equipment is just your commitment to maintain a minimum level of programming ($29.99, I think) on your account for that period of time - whether that's with one receiver or ten receivers - or even with the particular receiver that caused the commitment in the first place. As long as you maintain the programming, you can cancel some equipment and there would not be an Early Termination Fee (you can't cancel all of your equipment, though, of course :)).

Good grief, if you distrust them so much and dislike them so much (as nearly every post you make has some negative comment in it) why do you send them money each month? How can you justify paying for a service that has so obviously wronged you?
