Comparable package to choice

945 Views 7 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  James Long
I have Directv with HD DVR and the choice package, im paying $57, also a $10 credit so when thats up its $67. I am looking for a comparable package from DN that is around the same price but a better package. What i came up with is the America's Top 100 with the BronzeHD, is there something better or am I missing something? Also i get locals OTA so the box should get those for free i believe.

Your question is very hard to answer because we are not you. DISH and Directv don't have interchangable packages. AT100 might have fewer channels than choice but has all the channels that you watch or there is one channel in Choice that requires AT250 to be able to watch it on DISH. DISH charges $5 extra for the local channels so it looks like if you get locals OTA you can save BUT you don't get program guide information unless you subscribe to locals. You will need to evaluate which system suits your needs, there usually isn't much of a price difference between the two services.:)

It's just a numbers game, like anything else...

Back in the old days when people had those archaic copper lines from Ma Bell, it was $6 for call waiting. They also offered a special "pak" (uhhh, why do vendors do that stupid leave off the 'C' thing?) that was ..... you guessed it.... $6 more.

I just called and the guy told me they will show up in the guide but it wont be my actual locals because the dont offer them here. How it that it doesnt make sense or im confused
One of the best that is still around is that people are charged to NOT list their phone number in the phone book.

I agree with the 2nd posters answer - it depends on the channels and your preferences. If you have a DVR, it's my understanding that the Dish DVR's are the best at this point.
The closest direct comparison to Choice is AT200. There are a few channels (9) in AT200 that are not in Choice (Choice Xtra would be required) and a couple (5) in Choice that are not in AT200 (AT250 would be required), but AT200 is the closest comparison to Choice for number of channels and price. (Even with locals ... which when added still leaves AT200 at a price less than Choice. DISH just gives the choice to save a few bucks and not have locals.)

I do agree that the final decision comes down to what specific channels one wants. AT100 is a good package for those who want basic TV with no regional sports. No such package (other that "family" and "welcome" packages) exist on DirecTV. Plus there are a few channels only DISH has or only DirecTV has. The HD gap is a bit different.

See my lists at the bottom of the linked page for more information (may be a little outdated):
