I'm trying to the both the component and HDMI outputs on my HR21 simultaniously and having a problem. Here's the setup:

Bedroom
-----------
HR21 HDMI --> Sharp LCD, analog audio to recever
HR21 Component and digital audio (coax) --> Intelix AVO-V3AD balun to Cat5
Cat5 (75') --> Great Room

Great Room
---------------
Cat5 --> AVO-V3AD balun to component and digital audio (coax)
Component/Digital audio --> Yamaha VS-X3800 receiver
Yamaha HDMI --> Fujitsu 5003 plasma via HDFury

After some fiddling, I'm able to get the video to display in the Great Room but only if the TV in the Bedroom is turned off. If the Bedroom TV is on, I get what looks like handshaking problems: picture flashes on then goes to black, etc. If it's turned off, the picture is great and the Yamaha reports the signal is 1080i.

I can't get any audio at all in the Great Room. Bedroom TV on or off; receiver on or off. The Yamaha shows the audio signal as "???".

Having to turn the TV off in the Bedroom is unacceptable, as one of us might be watching another source there while the other watches the DTV from the Great Room. And of course having no sound kind of kills the fun. For some shows, anyway.

I thought that the HDMI and component outs both operated all the time, so I confused by the apparent interference. And I can't figure out why the audio doesn't work at all.

Anyone have any thoughts?

This sounds like a problem with your Intelix balun. The HR21's HDMI and Component Video are both active simultaneously. You can verify that in your bedroom by temporarily connecting the Component Video output to one of your TV's Component inputs.

Are you sure your baluns are working properly? I run an HDMI cable to one TV (Sony) and component cables and audio from the same HR21-700 about 60 feet to another TV (also Sony). I can have both TVs on or one off and one off and always receive a correct picture on both.

I have noticed a similar problem - My HR20-700 (0235) has component output to my TV, and HDMI output to my Onkyo Receiver. I use the Onkyo receiver when I want 5.1 sound to my in-ceiling speakers. Now, when I turn on the Onkyo receiver the picture and sound on the TV goes blank. This is relatively new behavior - previously when I turned on the Onkyo, I would get sound in my speakers, but the picture and sound on the TV was not affected.

It seems that the HDMI output and component output effect each other?

I have had similar problems. I have an HR20-700 in the living room connected via HDMI to a Panasonic plasma. I also have its composite out connected to a CRT SDTV on my patio. Often, we watch TV on the patio, so the plasma in the LR is off. Later, when I go to watch TV on the plasma, I get no picture on the HDMI outputs from the HR20. The only solution is to unplug the HDMI cable for a few minutes with all devices turned off.

Mind you, I’ve had this same setup for nearly two years and just in the last month or so has it become an issue. I believe there have been some recent changes in the HR2x’s handling of HDCP over HDMI. My guess is that your situation is similar. Since the HDMI output to your Onkyo receiver has no TV on it to answer back on HDCP handshaking, the HR20 shuts off its HD output. My advice would be to use the optical audio output form the HR20 instead of HDMI for your 5.1 surround. The HR20 should work fine with *nothing* connected to the HDMI port, but if *something* is there and that *something* can’t verify its HDCP status, then you have trouble.

After reading several posts in this thread that indicate one of the later software downloads may be causing this problem, I thought I had better check my two TVs again to see if they still both work now that I have received 0255.

I turned on the HDMI connected TV and tuned the HR21-700 to a MPEG 4 channel. Then I turned on the component connected TV. Both had picture and sound. I tried changing both TVs to different inputs, turning one TV off then back on, and several other things that I though might cause the picture to be lost on one of them. Nothing I could do would cause either TV to lose the picture. Both TVs are Sony.
