I was watching the Cowboys-Skins game yesterday on my local Fox affiliate (Channel 50) and NOT on my NFLST channel. All during the game I kept getting this "For Ordering Information Please Contact Customer Service at Ext 736" or something like that. It was VERY ANNOYING and there was NO WAY for me to make it go away. I sure wasn't sitting on hold and dealing with a CSR to be told nothing anyway so I just lived with it and at the end of the game the message went away.

It was very annoying in that it covered up player states, scores, etc, on the bottom of the screen and was solid blue (not transparent).

Any reason why this would be on my screen?

BTW, my package is Premier/HD with NFLST and SF.

TIA!

736 means that you dont have a phone line connected and are trying to order a ppv. the only reason you should get it is if you try to order a ppv...dont think it should happen on anything else. did you do anything yourself to get that message off the screen? just wondering but do you have a phone line connected on the receiver?

No phone line connected to the receiver and haven't tried to order any PPV. Just curious why it would show ONLY on the football game. It didn't show on any of the other channels nor did it show on the programs that were recording in the background.

Maybe just a quick reset of the box will cure any hiccups?

I think they sometimes treat NFLST like PPV's, at least they did a few years ago, and needed a phone line connected. If you do not have a phone line hooked up, do you have an ethernet connection set up? This should clear the message as well.

I agree with this. I have NFLST/SF, watched the same game and I don't have a phone line connected to either of my HR20's -- but I didn't see the 736 message. However, DO have an Ethernet connection to both units.

I only connect my DSL line when I want to download a VOD title. I have never had the phone line connected to my box (not a phone line near that location nor do I have a home phone land line). I have had NFLST for 5 or 6 seasons and this is the first time on any Sunday that I have seen this message.

I am assuming this was just an odd message but like I said, it was NOT on the 700's NFLST channels.......it was my local Fox affiliate on Channel 50. Also, the message did NOT appear during my wife's TB/GB early game on the NFLST channel.

I'm not pissed, nor am I going to call D* demanding credits or the such, but was hoping there was an explanation for this.

Thanks all for the input!

Ethernet cables will do nothing to help with this OSD. At this time ethernet is only used for DOD and does not allow you to order PPV. Just call D* and they can get the message cleared for you.

You order On Demand titles that has a charge. While it's technically it's a type of PPV it does not have anything to do with 736 which is a phone line issue. You cannot use an ethernet cable to do what a phone line does for you which allows you to order PPV off the guide on the PPV channels and not through the DOD menu.

ok i understand what your saying...somebody please correct me if i am wrong...736 means that the ippv is disabled becasue of NO callbacks. so if i hook up a ethernet cable the callback is made which then i can have the ability to order ppvs thru the remote again. soooo having a internet connection will work like having a phone line

i never actually purchase the movie off the dod. i always purchase them thru the guide. i dont like dod cause it takes 30 mins for it to download.

No you cannot connect an ethernet cable to have a call back made. Call backs are only done through phone cables. While it would be great to have them go through the internet at this point it doesn't work. However I heard that in the future they will be adding a phone port to the dish that will work for the whole home.

So basically to clear that OSD either hook up a phone cable, or don't, but call D* and they will clear it for you. However you will not be able to order another PPV until you do a call back.

Actually as of about 8 months ago the HR2 series do use the ethernet port to communicate all PPV to Directv. You no longer have to have a phone line connected to order PPV if you have it networked.
