I just want to congradulate D* for keeping its promise and providing EXCELLENT HD channels. I have noticed that almost everyone is satisfied with the PQ and we have yet to hear the term "HD Lite" for quite some time in reference to D*. With an improved line-up of receivers, more HD and lets not forget those wonderful CE's, I think we owe them there due!!!

.....Now we need to talk to them about these increased prices! I pulled out all my old bills and noticed my service went from just $45 in 1996 to $149 in 2008.:nono2:

I'll bet a lot of this is nickel-and-diming with the addition of DVR fees, HD Access fees and additional receiver fees over time, though. You may have went from one SD set with no DVR to four sets with HD and DVR service. These can easily add $25-50 to a bill depending on the equipment you have.

I wonder what those 1996 prices would be adjusted to 2008 dollars? :)

Anyway, I think DirecTV has done well in providing HD channels.

According to the CPI inflation calculator, $45 in 1996 is the same as $61.84 today.
AND, if you recall, that was about the time when Congress was supposed to be really cracking down on the cost of Cable, but the prices just kept rising. Yeah, I have no doubt we are getting screwed. I pay just over $100 now and cannot believe that does not include all the Pay Movie Channels, nor service if you have an issue. BUT, if it took those extra dollars to bring us HD, and to continue to update and improve systems, send up more satellites, etc., then I wont complain too much.

Yes, I can remember in the mid 90's when I had C-Band, I got all the basic channels and all of the movie channels that you could get at the time (HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, TMC, and Encore) for around $500 per year, and I thought that that was expensive back then.
