Is there some method of connecting the CCK (DCAW1R0-01) to the internet on a network with the SSID Name Broadcast feature disabled?

An earlier version of the CCK - the DCCK - has, in it's manual found on the web, a way for users to manually enter the SSID name and the related network key, etc. just as one can manually do on other devices, for instance an iPad.

I have an HR34 with the CCK and the WLAN light is not lit, and under System Info>Info there is the yellow ! beside STB Services Port: N/A (205) and another yellow ! beside Internet: Not Connected (22)

All the IP address, subnet mask, etc info is filled out correctly. The CCK was initially installed and successfully connected to the internet using the WPS buttons on the router (Netgear) and the CCK with the SSID Broadcast feature "Enabled". The router was later logged into and the SSID Broadcast "Disabled" and now the CCK is not connected to the internet and the WLAN light is not lit on the CCK.

Anyone know how to get the CCK connected to the internet without "Enabling" the SSID broadcast and leaving the SSID broadcast on full time?

There is a method of adding a 'client' in the routers wireless users settings but I need a 'Pin' for the CCK. (I think the CCK would be considered the 'client'.)

I tried going thru the WPS button method with the SSID disabled and was unsuccessful.
Thanks.

I'm not sure exactly what's going on here.
My CCK stayed connected when I turned off broadcasting SSID in my router.
You don't need to worry about: STB Services Port: N/A,
but should focus on: Internet: Not Connected
I haven't tried to setup my CCK with the WPS buttons, or through a receiver without broadcasting SSID.

When I have had problems, I connect it to my router with the ethernet port, and log into the CCK GUI. where I can make changes.

Well you have posted your question on 3 forums and it looks like no one really has an answer. If you look at WPS and hidden SSIDs in general you find that there are lots of issues with this setup, even with PCs. And since your receiver is basically a PC running Linux, I would expect that you are seeing the same problem here.

If I were in your shoes, I would reset you wireless CCK. (I think there is a small button on the back that will do this.) That should trigger your unit to produce the same results you see in the manual that is on-line. (I know you think there are two WCCK models, but, the model number you give points back to the only wireless CCK that seems to exist.) I think you are just not getting the basic SSID menu on your receiver because your CCK is stuck in WPS mode. Once you get back to the default settings you should be able to do the standard manual setup for hidden SSIDs and be good to go.

I was able to finally 'manually' input the network name and wireless key going thru the Menu>Setup options, however it was a trial and error process that finally led me down a path that provided the option to manually input the above info. So, it can be manually performed. Note that the HR34 with this newer CCK device works differently - in so far as- windows and options in the setup process. Very different from a DCCK model that has the only manual on the web that I can find. Not sure why WPS would not work with the SSID broadcast disabled.

This thread caused me to play around with hiding my SSID.
I found a laptop also couldn't log onto my network with it hidden.

While I might not "get it", it seems a much easier approach is to change the SSID to being broadcasted, connect your device, and then turn it off again.

Actually, this was the process that the OP followed when he first set his system up. Then he turned off the SSID broadcast and things stopped working. Like you, I don't know why this happens, but there are a lot of posts on a number of forums about failure of WPS with a hidden SSID on Windows 7 and other OSs. It could be that WPS protocol does not save the SSID when it makes a connection and has to search for it every time the connection is established. Given that the OP apparently did not disconnect the receiver though, you would think it would stay active. At least we know that WPS and hidden SSIDs don't work with the CCK.

It also looks like the instructions for the CCK setup on the HR34 are different than what is published in the CCK instruction manual. If so, that just adds confusion to further posts on this issue.

I have a wireless CCK, so when I read the first post, I turned off SSID broadcasting and then tried networking from my receivers, which still worked fine.
I left it this way and only made a change [many days later] when I found a laptop would no longer find the same network when Win7 booted.

Do you use the WPS method? If so, that would make this all more confusing.

The model of the CCK that is connected to the HR34 is DCAW1R0-01.
I have read through the online manual provided by others on a link and the instructions for connecting wirelessly are different. I simply was unable to follow the instructions provided for that 'DCCK' on my system. I tried a manual search for that model above and did not find anything.
The WPS setup works fine with the ssid broadcast enabled.
I thought that once the network was connected the device would 'remember' the wireless name and settings when the ssid broadcast was turned off later. Not the case however.

Well mine did here. Turning off SSID broadcasting didn't changes anything here, as to how the WDECA functioned. Left it that way for maybe a week or more, and only made a change for getting a laptop to connect.

What I think has been lost here is that the OP pushed the WPS button and did the automatic setup with the SSID in the open. Then he changed his router to hide the SSID and his HR34 dropped the connection. Like others, I would have expected things to remain OK until a reset. But, it appears that as soon as the SSID went away, the connection failed.

To make things even more confusing it looks like the HR34 has a different setup screen than what appears in the WCCK manual, which in turn led the OP to think he has a different WCCK than what others have.

I have to say that all this confusion with changing technologies and setup screens is giving me a greater appreciation of what the installers must face on a daily basis.

I don't have a HR34, so I don't know what its setup screen looks like.
I did have my modem changed last week, and simply used the H25 to setup the Wireless CCK. I didn't use the WPS function/option, but the onscreen steps worked the first time. Selected the network, entered the key, and was done. It couldn't have been much easier.
