I am considering the switch from the Dish 921 to the VIP 622. I'd like some feedback on whether or not now would be a good time to switch. It seems like many of the bugs have been worked out. Also, what are your opinions on the lease or buy issue? I've been lurking for awhilem... this is my first post.

Thanks -Ian

I moved from the 921 to the 622 and have no regrets. The issues the 921 had were large compared to those that the 622 has had IMO. I will never buy again like I did with the 921. I bought it and only had it for about a year and I paid $1,000 so I was paying a little less than $100.00 a month for the 921. The technology changes way too much these days to even consider buying the 622 unless you want more than one. I think you have to buy the second if you want two 622's.

I have no regrets about upgrading. it was a very good move for us. We had a relatively trouble free 921, and even fewer problems with the 622.

Like lujan said, I don't see much point in buying a receiver. At least not now. In the past, you could buy a receiver and keep it for 5-10 years, at a cost that is equivalent to leasing/renting for 2 years or less. Now, buying a receiver will cost the equivalent of leasing for 4-6 years. It just doens't make financial sense.

OK, I am convinced, and my girlfriend says she'll pay half as a Christmas present. Am looking forward to the extra HD programming. I'm always checking to see what's on and bummed I don't get the Voom channels.

Thanks -Ian

Oh.... and a HTPC to hold all my CD's and pictures uncompressed so I can listen to any one of my CD's by remote, while I look at pictures on the big screen.

OK.... THEN it'll be complete.

Ahhh, until the next new technology comes out anyway.

Peace -Ian

I'm personaly using an HD DVD player and not Blu-Ray but "to each his own". I am waiting for next year when there may be a player that does both HD DVD and Blu-Ray.
