Controlling two HR21s with one remote

467 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  RunnerFL
I just had my DirecTV HD service installed this morning. When I called to order I was told I could run two HR21s on the same TV and there was a way for the remote to only control one at a time. The installer did not know how to do this. They are stacked on top of each other.

Anyone know how to program them so they will only control one at a time?

Please help..Thank you!

Cover the IR sensor on one of the units first so you can set the other one up.

On the 2nd unit press Menu-->Parental, Fav's & Setup-->System Setup-->Remote-->Receiver Mode-->change it to AV1/AV2.

Than move the toggle switch on the remote over to AV1. Press and hold the select and mute buttons together until the light blinks two times. Once that happens press 00003 and that will set it up for a different set of codes.

Than one unit will be controlled from the DIRECTV spot and the other will be AV1.
Thank you so much....you just saved me a huge headache. If I decided to get the RF remote I am assuming it would work the same way correct?

Once again....huge help. I am so happy I found this forum. :)

No problem. Glad I could help.

As for RF it is the same way but you need to go back into the remote setup and change the IR/RF setup to RF and follow the instructions to program it for RF.

Here's a step by step for setting this up using IR.
