Copying shows from THR22

I used to have Tivo years ago & really liked the feature where I could copy recordings from my play list to DVD. Can I still do that with this model?

I've also got a couple of external hard drives (Verbatim USB2TB) that I recently used to record shows from my Dish DVR (722). Since switching to Directv I found out these are useless, because I need an esata cable for directv dvr's. Could I use these external hard drives with the THR22?

I'd really appreciate some help.

The THR-22 does not support TiVo To Go. TTG is the feature of transferring the show to your computer and burning a DVD. Some older TiVos even had the DVD burner built in. Your only option is to connect the THR-22 to a DVD recorder or video capture card and archive in real time.

As far as external hard drive goes, yes the THR-22 uses the eSATA for an external drive. Keep in mind an external is meant as a replacement of the built in drive. If you use the eSATA you will not have easy access to the recordings made on the internal drive. It is not meant for archiving like Dish does it. It is used for more recording capacity with DirecTv recievers.

So I can copy shows from the Tivo play list to a dvd recorder???
Only by playing them and recording the output.
You may see an error message on screen while transferring to a DVD recorder or PC capture card. Most prevalent when archiving recordings from any of the premium movie channels. You will either have to disconnect the HDMI connection or have the TV on the input the Tivo is connected to, while performing your recording or PC capture.

Has there been any indication if D* will ever support it on the THR22?

I'm contemplating ditching Comcrap, going back to D* and getting their THR22. Unfortunately, I do sometimes use TTG w/my Tivo HD (actually via http://code.google.com/p/kmttg/) to transfer high def shows to my PC, transcode them into AVCHD format burn them to DVD.

I'd obviously lose that ability if I went w/the THR22... :(

Yes, using your current method, you will loose the ability to transfers shows over to the PC (& burn to DVD). However, there are other transfer methods to move or capture your programs over to the PC. Depending on how much archiving you truly do, one solution with the THR (or any HRx series dvr's) is to capture using a Hauppauge HD PVR. The only drawback is you have to capture the program in real time, not just move a copy of the file over (as you do with TTG). Yet once captured you can immediately edit & burn the AVCHD file to DVD as you were doing before.

I belive there are no plans to add TIvo To Go. Recording one of the analog outputs in real time is the only known way of getting shows off of the THR22.

The Directv Plus HD DVRs do have a feature called Nomad. Nomad is an add on to Whole Home DVR and will allow you to take your recordings on the go for 30 days.
