Corrupted hard drive... don't delete!

I searched for a topic about this and couldn't find one.

Earlier this evening when I turned on my 622 I got a message that my hard drive data was corrupted and that I would have to delete all data on the drive.

Whoa! Wait a minute... I've got lots of shows on there that I haven't seen yet. I wasn't going to just hit that big DELETE button. I rebooted the 622 and when it recovered it was working fine again. It even started recording the news... which it should have been recording before, but wasn't. Shows recorded earlier played back just fine, too.

Has anyone else seen this problem? It's really scary when you get that message! I hope it was just a software crash. I've had my 622 since February and except for a couple very minor problems it's been working great. I hope it's going to continue to work great.

It has happened on three of my four receivers. All of My Recording were intact. I have noticed that in Diagnostics, Counters, the "Hard Drive Counters: 06)Reformat Partition:" went from 0x0000 to 0x2000.

The screen you describe when selecting the button triggers the receiver reset.

On other forums it is reported that some have also lost their recorded events.

Here are some thread that discusses this in greater detail: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=69818 : http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=65633
I just got this last night on one of my 622's. Thanks to this forum I knew even if I hit the belete button it wouldn't wipe out my programs. Sure enough the receiver rebooted and when it came back, all my programs were still there and just fine!

Thanks for the links to those other two threads. My search criteria must not have been correct, because I couldn't find them.

I'm glad to see that my 622 is not the only one who has received this error message. I think doing a reboot instead of hitting that "Delete Now" button is a safer way to go.

Same exact thing happened to me last night, too. All programs still there, though. :joy:

It's the first issue I've had in the 5 months I've had the 622. Let's hope it's not a sign of things to come.
Fix is coming for this one. The problem has to do with the VOD content that gets downloaded to the 622.

It will reformat the disk partition during the reboot anyway so you have no choice. Fortunately it has mostly been the DishOnDemand partition, so most the time it has not been a big problem. Dish has said it is aware of the problem (with the DOD) and will be releasing a fix.
