Hello,

I have had a 622 for eight days and have had corruption in two recorded SD programs. This is out of about 30 recordings during this time period.

One was a football game while the other was a basketball game, both standard definition. They both playback normally but do not get past the 3rd quarter before the recordings end at its normal time. If you fast forward these recordings you will get break ups, uneven forwarding, slight freezes, etc.

Also, the time remaining while pausing a playback is wildly off during the last few minutes on some of my other recordings. In one case I paused and the screen showed about 5 minutes left while there was really about 20 minutes left.

Any thoughts on the corruption issue?

Thanks for your help.

By any chance were these on a RSN (Regional Sports Nework, i.e. Fox Sports channel)? If so this is something other customers have seen as well.

If you haven't already please report this to DISH so they can be made aware of the issue.

Yes, one was the Oregon/Oregon State football game on Fox Sport Network last Friday. The other was a basketball game on Comcast Sport Network.

Thanks for the info.

I've been having the same problem lately. Interestingly, its been on the same show on BBC America. I record it at the same time once a week and for the past 3 weeks, only this show has shown these symptoms.

I recently had HD recordings on Dallas HD LIL stop before the end of playback and just dump out. One was 2/3rds of the way done. One was about 1/2 way done. Tried to run them from the start and got same result. This is a pretty recent 622 replacement - for one that had HDMI and other problems.

I had also recorded both shows from Dallas LIL SD on my 510 (often do this for redundancy) and they played back to the end. Also, I noticed that on another recording on the 622, when I played it back and FF, it was just a blur, not the usual sharp picture that you can use to know when you are at the point you want to stop the FF.

I have reported these things directly to someone I know in the receiver division. He thanked me, but so far has not offered an opinion or advice.

I have experienced the same thing when recording basketball on Comcast Sports Network. It has happened 4 or 5 times now. It seems to be only when you are watching it as a pre-recorded show off the dvr or if you are watching it live but you have paused it or backed it up and are now no longer watching it in "real time".

I contacted E* the 2nd time it happened and tech support sent me a replacement ViP622. The very first recording of a Comcast basketball game on the new unit did the same thing. I made another call to E* support and was told that they were aware of the problem and it would be corrected in thier next software upgrade, but couldn't tell me when that would be. This problem was first reported in Sept so I am hoping it will get fixed soon. I have been making multiple recordings of all Comcast Basketball games since this started but it's a real pain in the behind...

I had it happen again yesterday, Sunday, on Fox channel 40 SD game with the 49ers and NewOrleans. The three times that I have had corruption has been with recording sports, which have longer recording times. To experiment, I am going to split the game into two manual recordings for tonights Kings game, and also for some football games. At least D* knows about the problem. Also, for CSN, trust but verify by making a backup recording.

ive been recording smallville off of my ota signal - its RARE that when i go back to watch it it shows me "digital recording" - 95% of the time is tells me that the recording has corrupted but has been recovered

once it just totally corrupted the show (through fast forwarding, i think there was about 2-3 minutes of actual playable content)

i dont know whats been going on but it seems like ALL of my hd recording is getting corrupted somehow (the green blotches, audio cutting in/out, etc) - and whats scary is that this also occurs on sd recordings every once in a while

me thinks a call to cs (shudder) is in order

just keep in mind if you call into dish cs - go straight to the technical support section in the menu - even talking to one of the lower reps will give you nothing but a headache and a couple hundred pounds of frustration...

I see corruption about 99% of the time when I record OTA shows with my 622.
I've just accepted at this point the OTA tuner in the 622 is junk, and I record
my OTA programs on an HD PC tuner card that works perfectly every time
with the exact same antenna connection going to my 622. :nono2:

Surprising. It is actually a better than average tuner. The main chip used is widely used by other receiver and TV's

I really think you must have a problem with your speciffic 622...I record and watch several hours of OTA each week from all of my OTA channels, and I have no corrupted recording problems at all. Do you have the guide data for your OTAs?

I recorded about 10 hours of OTA a weeks and have not seen any corruption. I have had some shows have audio or video issues but none have indicated corruption. What signal strengths are you seeing Chad? What your experiencing is not normal for the 622 and the tuner in the 622 from my perspective if far from junk. In my install, it has performed better than both my 921 and 811s but like anything OTA.. YMMV.
