I currently have a slimline dish, 1 HR20-700 and 1 H20. 2 lines to HR20 and 1 to the H20, with DECAs attached at the receiver ends.

Would like to upgrade to the HR34 to replace the HR20-700. I don't wont Whole Home DVR or cinema kit, would i just need to a to add a swm? Or, would I need anything else.

Thanks in advance.

Just to note;

Those devices "attached to the receiver ends" are actually "B-Band Converters" (BBCs) not "DECAs."

And I'm curious, the HR20 paired with an HR34 through whole home service would make for a rather nice setup over keeping the really obsolete H20 with the HR34 and no WH even possible.

Or is it just the $3.00 a month MRV fee something you don't want to pay?

Nice catch on the BBCs. He said DECA and I didn't even question it.

You don't have DECAs, you have BBCs (DECAs are SWiM only).

It's not clear that DirecTV will let you order the HR34 without WHDS. If DIY, you'd need a SWiM-LNB, power inserter, SWiM splitter and a BS filter (or preferably a DECA) for the H20.

I'd call Directv and see what they'd charge you for the entire upgrade (You MAY be able to talk them out of the DECA module). If you're comfortable doing it yourself, Go to http://www.solidsignal.com and see what they'll charge you for the HR34, and SWM LNB (With Power Inserter).
Not sure-does the H20 need anything to work with SWM?

The H20 works with SWiM, but it will NOT work with DECA. DIRECTV should require a swap of the H20 for something that supports WHDS.

I agree that it is unlikely that DIRECTV will allow an HR34 without WHDS.

The H20 does work with SWiM, but since it doesn't have a network jack, it can't work with DECA.
Upgrading a H20 for MRV is part of the "connected home" package, but also restarts a programing commitment.

If true about a WHDVR service requirement for an HR34, then not really a loss since the HR20 with the HR34 connected through WH is a much better setup anyhow as I stated.

But hey, I don't want to be too forward in suggesting what someone else should be willing or able to pay monthly for. :sure:

I activated mine today without Whole Home. Not interested in it. Just need a 5 tuner HD DVR with 1 TB of hard drive space. Just to be clear it was professionally installed today too and the techs knew I didnt have Whole Home.

Was that true for all H20s? Or was it that some of them had network jacks but they didn't work? Memory is fading on those awful boxes. :p
