CSI recording and froze unit.

974 Views 17 Replies 18 Participants Last post by  HDMike
Tonight I was watching Office, no problem, at 9 it started to record CSI and totally froze. There is something in the stream or something going on. I never had these problems and in the past 4 days I have had more problems them ever before with any update. Earl, try to find out if there is something they added in the stream...

Right now unit is frozen, and hard drive is making no noise so some type of malfunction has occured.

In the afternoon, everything recorded correctly but at night something isgoing on.

My CSI was setup to record and did the same thing. 15 minutes into the show, I realized it wasnt recording, so I manually hit it. It did not buffer back and catch the beginning of the show so once again, I lost my recording and cannot be unhappier that they still dont have this thing figured out.

I recorded the 8:00 and the 9:00 epys of CSI all-the-while switching from a recorded program from my list to Grey's A to a pbs station and a couple of others.
After reading your post I went to the two finished recordings of CSI and FF through both of them and no problems there. I did record those shows from OTA and in HD......so maybe the problem is with D*. Maybe it isn't the software but D* treatment of the transmission. Next week I'll record the shows off of Sat.

Can't do the Sugar or Cherry, but I might have some "Candy" for you...

...now where did I put Candy's phone number.
No problems with CSI in Atlanta.

So Earl, speaking of software, is there any software updates coming soon? Just curious, thanks. :D
CSI recorded OK -- OTA in NM.

Look at that -- as many legit caps as lower case!
I know a lot of people like to complain about the HR20 (including myself). Tonight the HR20 finally did something right and my HR10 screwed me. I have both and I have them both set to record the same thing because I don't yet trust my HR20. The HR10 has never missed a recording while the HR20, well you know how it can be. Anyway, last night the HR20 recorded CSI just fine on my local MPEG4 CBS broadcast. However, the HR10 didn't even attempt to record the SD feed. There is no reason for this. I was not recording something else at the same time on the HR10 and CSI is at the top of my priority list. Furthermore, when I search by program name CSI (regular, NY or Miami) cannot be found.

Now, I know everyone has a different experience and I got my HR20 very early (thanks to being a pest). I have not had near the headaches that a lot of you have though I have had some.

At least for one night the HR20 made me happy to own it.

I recorded both CSI and Shark last night using the HR20 OTA...no problems.
Recorded CSI (Mpeg4), no problem.
My HR20 would not come out of standby during the CSI time-slot! It was supposed to be recording CSI off of Channel 2 WCBS NY mpeg-4 HD.

I needed to reboot the unit.

By the time I was completely powered up it was about 9:54 PM EST, so the episode was recorded partially: 6 minutes.:(
Our unit recorded Ugly Betty (MPEG4), CSI (MPEG4) and ER (MPEG4) with no problems last night. We were watching recordings up until about the midway point of CSI and then started watching all three of these shows and had no issues.
Just had my HR20 installed this Sat, got the SW update on the spot. No probs at all...mind you I only have 5 SLs and I have not seen any OnDemand content. Both CSIs recorded on D* HD just fine...

I did notice that the single - delete stopped working and you now need -- to delete a recording.
Recorded the 9pm CSI in San Diego via Mpeg4 and it had annoying audio drop outs the entire time. I am permanently going to use OTA CBS from now on since this is too much of a common occurance.
I tried to record CSI at 9-10pm Eastern time last night, and it did not record either. After trying to figure out why it didn't record I looked at my signal strength going to my local CBS HD channel via satellite 99b, and it was at 32%. I called D* CSR/Tech and they told me that the low signal strength could have prevented my HR20 from recording the show. They are sending someone out tomorrow to re-align my dish.

Am I presuming correctly, that a low signal strength could prevent a show from recording like the CSR said? Or is this just another HR20 bug, soon to be updated?
No problems at all with the MPEG4 stream in Nashville. CSI: recorded and played back just fine. In fact, D* seems to have improved the way the encode the CBS local here - even during the crazy, flashy, quick-transition intro, there was very little pixelation and no picture breakup (which has been an issue with scenes like that in the Nashville market). All that seems to have been cleaned up. :)
I had my first instance of a recording problem on 0x10b with CSI last night. The playback just had a grey screen and immediately asked if I wanted to delete it. Luckily I still have the HR10 for backup and it got it without a problem.

The HR20 recorded all other shows last night OK (Office, ER, King of Queens, Scrubs)
