With the final 2012 customer agreement i received last week i was wondering does this really effect me since i completed my most recent two year contract commitment with directv march 18, 2012 (6 years total). i hate being under contract and want to confirm that this is will not add additional time to my contract.

It won't add any more time to your contract. The only things that add time are using mover's connection, adding a new receiver or any other kind of new install.

EDIT: Also forgot... Having a leased receiver replaced restarts your 2 years as well.

No it does not. The only time replacing a defective reciever will start a new contract is if you are replacing a defective owned receiver with a leased reciever (if you don't have the protection plan). If you have the protection plan the owned reciever gets replaced with an owned reciever and no new contract is required.

Sometimes a CSR activating a replacement reciever will mess up and activate it as an additional receiver instead of a replacement. This starts a new 2 year contract, but it can and should be fixed if you talk to the right people.

And there's also no commitment with using Mover's. That's why they want you to upgrade/add when you do Mover's so they can get you for another 2 years.

It sounds like this may have changed (from "See Offer Details" link @ www.directv.com/move)

DIRECTV MOVERS DEAL: Offer expires on 7/18/12. Offer available once in any 12 month period for qualifying customers only. Qualifications based on tenure, package level, payment history and other factors. Sports blackouts and your ability to receive local channels or broadcast networks may be affected by new address. Residential customers only. Offer requires a program agreement of 12 months or 24 months if you took an Advanced Receivers equipment upgrade (HD, DVR, or HD DVR) of any DIRECTV base programming package (priced at $29.99/mo. or above), or any international service bundle

Actually, I think that Mover's Connection has recently changed (within the last month or so) and it does come with a 1 year commitment now if you don't get additional recievers, or 2 years if you get additional recievers.

Yes, it does and has every time I've had to replace a leased receiver even though I have the protection plan.

It was added in error. If done correctly, a replaced leased receiver does not come with a new commitment. This has been the subject of multiple threads.

There was a long period of time where, due to "system issues" that lasted a couple of years, a two year commitment was incorrectly applied to the replacement of a leased reciever.

The protection plan is irrelevant (other than saving a $20 shipping charge) when replacing a defective leased reciever.

Then they are targeting you personally because it never has and never does (well it is not SUPPOSED TO) when replacing any defective leased receiver either with or without PP or any any leased or owned receiver with the protection plan. I've had numerous leased and owned receivers replaced over the years and never got my contract extended and I check after each swap by calling the ACD because the csr's used to make a lot of errors.
Thanks for the answers. I just always wanted to know for sure.

I just had a DVR replaced last week and specifically signed paperwork that stated it would NOT restart my commitment. I have the PP.

That would be a recent change. So it went from originally a 1 year commitment to nothing back to a 1 year commitment.

While the cost replacement of an owned receiver with a leased receiver has changed (you now are required to pay the full up-front lease fee), the criteria for commitment extensions has not changed.

thats wrong...fyi ERP the only possibgle cost are s/h
Add one more to the group of those who have had receivers replaced (multiple times) and have not had the contract extended. Most recently, I had a DVR replaced about 4 months ago, and it definitely did not trigger a new contractual commitment. Also, I do not have the protection plan, and, each time I've had a receiver or DVR replaced, the shipping charge for the replacement has also been waived upon my request.
