Just got my RCA UTV's hooked up the other day and got the final SW update last night. One thing I notice is that my local channels (Atlanta) only show as AT2, etc. Why are the network labels not there or how do I turn these on? Just curious.

Also, I see a lot of the networks with E and W feeds in the upper channels but it states I am not subscribed (I signed up for the TC Premier via the NFL Sunday Ticket special they have). Just wondered how to access these or if there was a cost.

Yes, I know I could call D*, but I figured why bother when all the experts are on this board:D

Are the in the 380 range? If so, those are the LA and NYC distant nets for those who qualifty for them by living in a grade B or white area. Being you live in Atlanta and are getting locals I doubt you could get them. Off the top of my head I think the cost is somewhare around $6 per set, if you qualify. Sorry I cant answer your first question as I dont sub to D*.

The local channel channel designators are made up of 2 letters (the city code, in your case AT for ATLANTA) and then the channel number. The only network designator will be in the guide if you highlight the channel number (it will show you the call letters and affiliation), or on the program information screen (it will show a logo for the network). This is just the way DIRECTV handles local channels.

Mine are the same way. SC2, SC4, SC5, etc.

As far as the east/west feeds, they are distant nets. You can ask D* to apply for a waiver for you. I have a distant net waiver for Fox East/West and pay $1.17 per month.

Sadly there is No way to turn Network labels or logos on. Directv can download this code in a software patch but never does. You should check the logos in the reciever before you buy it by checking each and every channel and making sure the logos that you want are present before you buy it. Thinking that Directv will upgrade the guide or reciever is a BIG mistake ! The only way to get a new guide or new logos is to buy another reciever. There are recievers for sale at www.rca.com that are 3 years old thus missing many network logos.even though most of these recievers are upgradeable via satelite but directv is just not interested in customers guide system, alls they are concerened with is that you get the signal, they offer no other support. So, if you are not satisfied with it out of the box, the best thing to do is not to buy it.

Why does anyone care what the logos are?

Well DirecTV might not take care of the labels, but my DirecTivo has the right ones... TiVo must update them from time to time...

there are some people that do like tv network logos. the manufactures obviously think that the guide looks better with them and it does aid in finding channels when surfing the guide.Logos are a selling point when a consumer sees them in the store, but most consumers assume that its something that directv will upgrade and support, as it does seem like a simple matter. When i hooked up my first rca drd 303 ra unit 6 years ago and become a directv sub, the first thing i did after getting the signal was call up customer service and complain i was missing many logos. .. 6 years latter, im still complaining ! to shut me up, they ship me free recievers every year and i send them back the old ones! There are others on the internet who feel the same way i do. You may find them at www.satlogo.com. these people collect sation logos and download them to varoius satelite companies through out the world, why directv wont contact these people and support there customers i still dont understand .

Thanks for the responses. I don't wish to pay extra for LA or NY feeds of broadcast, but was just curious as to what those channels were (Thanks Mehs).

Looks like I'll just memorize what the network affiliation is with the channel listings I have for locals. Not a big deal, it's one of those 'nice to haves' when looking at the guide.

When I used to tape a program from NBC (Ch.10), on the Now Showing I'd get the NBC logo with the program. However, I would not get a logo for ABC or CBS programs. However when I used to flip from Ch.3 to Ch.6 to Ch.10, I'd see the logos for all the big three networks. That makes me suspect there is a difference from what TiVo is doing and what DirecTV is doing.

Also, WWSI 62 is a Telemundo affiliate, but DirecTV doesnt acknowledge with the T logo. Are other Telemundo stations getting the T's?
