OK... I used to have DISH.... and now I have Directv.

I love the music channels both provide... doesn't matter if it be Sirius or XM.

I (as most users) ALWAYS want to know what is playing.. artist, title, CD etc... duh... with DISH it is always on... simply moving around so as not to burn in your TV... perfect!

Now.. what does DIRECT DO? After around 3 minutes it goes to the SCREEN SAVER.. most often even before the current song finishes! UNREAL.. I can NOT believe this! SO amazingly stupid! Every 3 minutes I have to stop whatever I am doing and pick up the remote and click a few buttons just to turn off the screen saver to get the info back.

I can NOT believe this. How obviously crazy is this? If this doesn't get fixed eventually.. I will be going back to DISH.. this is one of those issues that cannot be ignored.. since it is SUCH a simple issue.. just do what DISH does. This is one of those most obvious things I cannot believe that D* didn't realize how dumb this is.

I don't agree with the amount of outrage you have on this issue, but I do agree that it should be fixed. All of the DirecTV receivers work like this, and it is annoying.

:) You are correct sir.. since just in the last few hours we went to watch the NEW year episode of "ER".. and no can do!... OMG.... black screen.. so PERHAPS this issue isn't at the TOP of the list.. but anyway this music issue REALLY does bother my wife and I... as we listen to the music channels ALL THE TIME when we are not watching TV which is most of the time... this really must be addressed..

Of course, considering this is a DVR, the black screen of death issues should be first, but D* really MUST fix the music channels issue to compete with DISH. I really am thinking of going back to DISH.. and the main reason is not the very rare black screen of death.. but the ever present issue I described above. All of this stuff is really inexcusable for any satellite DVR.

Truthfully, I don't ever see them changing the behavior. It likely only brings ourage from a tiny portion of their users. Sorry about that, it doesn't make it less important to you.

If you use it that often, have you considered an outright subscription to Sirrius or XM?

Ability to disable the Screen Saver is currently #64 on the HR20 Wish List Survey. It's not ranked too high right now.

There are probably more people that actually want the screen saver to come on, particularly on the Music channels. However, I would like there to be an option to turn it off for just the reason you suggest.

Not really. Music channels are pretty low on the list for the majority of people. It's really not at the top of the list for Dish or DirecTV to be concerned all that much about them, it's such a small portion of their business. I think I may have listened to a total of 12 hours of music from DirecTV music channels *in 10 years*. Everybody else I know that has either sat provider doesn't find the music channels very appealing (I personally listen to Internet radio).

Now I'm not saying your request or frustration isn't valid, I think it is. But realize you're a bit rare. :)

It should not be a top priority but I agree this is so annoying it gets to me as well. Since not everyone is going to agree the simple solution for D* is to put a screensaver option in the Setup. Bascially.....

Screensaver
3 Minute Delay
10 Minute Delay
OFF

Personally I think the screensaver should stay, but it should contain the song information. I can't imagine it would be that hard to have the song information in the background behind the moving images on the screen saver.

I agree with this. The screen saver is very imortant for plasma screens so we need it there-at least as a defualt option that can be changed.

Having moving text of the ablum, song, artist ino would be very nice indeed.

Count me in on those who want the option to turn it off. While those with plasmas may want that option, those with DLPs (like me) don't have to worry about burn-in, so would at least like the option to turn the screen saver off.

Not such a big deal. Let's face it; when "listening" to XM on the music stations; the HR20 is basically a radio. Most people don't usually sit in front of the radio when listening to music. If you're in another room and a song comes on that you want ot know the artist and title, is it so hard to hit play to take off the screen saver?

There are so many other more important things to work out and IMHO, there should be a screen saver on so the image doesn't get burned in.

Your assumption is wrong. Would love to be able to glance up to see artist and title on a song that I might want to buy and add to my library. Also most people forget that the screen saver will also come on if one is watching a recorded program and while one of the tuners was on the XM stations.

I want the option to turn it off period. As even if D* goes to a bubble screen saver - it will still come on again if one is watching a recorded program.

It would seem as if the solution to this problem is rather obvious: an "option" in the setup menu to have the song and album info either on or off. If the information could float around the screen to prevent burn-in or image retention on plasma screens, that would be a great benefit. It is obvious that there are opinions both for and against and so the "option" method seems the best way to go.

I vote for STABILITY first; bells, whistles and slight annoyances later.
