DBS Providers Get More Brazilian Soccer

DirecTV and EchoStar Communications' Dish Network will launch Portuguese-language sports channel PFC Internacional in January.

The network offers more than 300 live soccer matches during the year, as well as entire previously recorded matches from seven major competitions in Brazil.

PFC Internacional is produced by Globosat, the largest pay TV programmer in Brazil and part of Organizações Globo.

Will this be part of standard packages or PPV?

BAH!!! Directv are "down and out of the count" when it comes to internationals.

I would take my money to Dish Net, because of SPT, alone, even though SPT is not Brasileiro, the Portugal Superliga alone (which contains lots of Brasileiros,) is worth it.

Very true. SPT was an awesome addition to the existing Portugese programming lineup. I had a lot of customers upgrade to the SuperDISH when that channel came out. Of course, they're simulcast on the wings now but it was easy to gauge the interest by the number of upgrades alone.

If you don't need that much Brazilian football, you can always just tune to Gol TV for a few matches a week. But hey, more the merrier, right? Hopefully on DISH Network, they'll have enough channels to create a new Brazilian Portugese package and a separate Portugese (from Portugal) package and grandfather the current combined package. That way, you're not paying for channels you don't want.
