What OS is used on the R15?

What microprocessor does it have?

What programming language/IDE is used to develop for it?

Is there a site to get other tech info for the R15?

There is a thread going through all of the insides of the box. I'm not sure what search term you could use though .

But the OS is an NDS made OS most likely developed for DirecTV that is based off of XTV. That's pretty much all I can help you with .

Wolffpack has done a lot of research on the disk drive, file system, file structure, etc., of the R15. Search for his posts, you will find about as much info as there is available. Found the thread... http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=54346&highlight=160GB

Earl did a complete review of the R15-500 when they first came out a year ago. That included pictures of the insides, and somewhere in that thread I think someone identified what the CPU was.

Most development of devices like this takes place under *nix whether or not the target is some other OS. You'll see references to GPL code (and downloads) on the DirecTV (and Dish Network) websites.

The dominance of Microsoft branded development tools has made Windows an undesirable cross-development platform.
