My replacement unit has been performing admirably all week (knocking on wood) so I used every ounce of restraint and resisted beta testing the 0x115 release. How is it doing? I expect the poll will be more reliable after a few days, but my curiousity is unbearable.

The menus do respond faster with this release.

I didn't have any problems with 10b so I really cant say this is better or worse. I did notice the pink bug still so that has not gone away but I could care less about it.

Hopefully this will fix a lot of the other user's problems though.

Off the subject but was there anything said at CES about the future capability of online scheduling?

Seems to early to pass judgment on stability...

Right now... depends on how you look at it.

There is no doubt that "something" is going on with the spontaneous reboots..
So that is a "step back"...

But other areas... have improved.

But 24-48 hours since you got it, it is hard to say about the "long" term improvements.

I fully agree with this assessment. I am, however, going to vote that 0x115 is a step back. To me, the overall stability has greatly decreased. I'll only go back to 0x10b if my Wife gets fed up with the reboots, though.

I'm getting several OTA channels that I was NOT receiving under 10b...in DFW area, I'm now getting FOX 4 sub-channel-the Viper radar, and a few other radar sub-channels. I'm happy!

A hand full of people, in the issue thread... have described a spontanous reboot during trickplay motions... (and one other case of using the back button).

DirecTV has already seen those reports, and has been investigating it already.

As a NOTE: about this poll...

There is a perk to being a mod... I can see who voted for what.. :D

And at least one of you have voted that it is a step backwards... but have not put your issue into the issue tracking thread.

Please do so... even if it has already been reported... more data the better.

That is the WHOLE point of having the Release Candidates... to help make the next "national" version as good as it can be.

I have a reliably reproducible case on a recorded show:
Downloaded Elvis (0x115) at 8:54pm yesterday (PDT).
Recorded Channel 11's news from 11pm to 11:35pm.
It plays fine. You can even FF thru it at 4X fine.
But, every time I try to skip thru the commericals at around 11 minutes into it, the HR20 goes black, then does a reboot on its own.
I've done this now 3 times - once at about midnight, once against at about 12:30 (couldn't believe it happened again), and now this morning at about 10am (so it's probably not related to rebuilding the schedule as was previously speculated).

I don't have eSata, external atenna, ethernet, nor HDMI hooked up (I use component). I do have CallerID and digital dolby turned on.

I love the term "Release Candidates". Release Candidates = Beta Testers.

Not complaining one bit, just attempting to making a funny  !

Not exactly the same thing....

Beta Testers usually are ones that try the software, BEFORE it becomes a release candidate. In fact, the Beta test team at DTV has seen a bunch of different versions that have never become Release Candidates.

Ahhhhh, with that bit of insight, I make 400 posts. :)

Thank you Earl!

This echos my thoughts precisely, and no real poll choice for "mixed" I love the good it did, BUT I am getting spontaneous reboots and may go back to 10b if it happens one more time. Just twice so far, but thats 2 times too often of course. A pity as it really seems good else wise.

What he said.

No reboots .... yet - but nothing spectacularly different pro or con.

I guess that is my mistake. I assumed D* were the alpha testers, while we are the beta testers. I have beta tested flightsim and gaming software. We also got versions that were many revision from the last one we saw. The alpha testers saw pretty much all of them. Or so I was told.

Different companies... different methods. All I can tell you, is that a good amount of DirecTV people do work with the software, before it is considerd for going out to customers...even as a release candidate.

Another vote for "too soon to tell" since I've only had it for a little over 36 hours. Observations so far (less time than normal in front of the TV):

  • The guide is definitely faster (nice!), changing channels is still painfully slow.
  • Still no Chicago OTA Channel 2-1 .
  • Still have Random Playback Start bug.
  • No crashes, no recording or scheduling anomalies, and no playback problems.

Is it me, but for the FF Reboot bug a lot of people (or maybe I'm reading the same person posting in different threads :) ) are reporting the reboot at FF at 11 minutes? Maybe there's something in the code that forces are reboot at 11 minutes during FF.
