I live in Erie, PA and receive the Pittsburgh local channels (yes, I "moved" over two years ago). Last Friday I had an AT9 dish installed in place of my 3LNB dish for my HD Locals. The installer didn't have a signal tester. He looked up the azimuth, elevation, and tilt settings from my dish and set them. He didn't do any fine tuning.

While I haven't had much problem tuning things in, I have what seem to be a good number of artifacts and other things in my streams, particularly the locals. I watched the Ka/Ku install videos and saw that the Ka band is narrow and thus falls off much more easily. I'm wondering if the lack of fine tuning is hampering my ability to receive the strongest possible signals. If so, I'll probably call the store the installer came from so they can send someone out to do the fine tuning. If my signals are fine, so be it.

Here is how the numbers shake up:

Code:
Satellite 99b:
1-8 82 00 00 00 76 15 NA NA
9-16 NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA
17-24 NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA
25-32 NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA

Satellite 103a:
1-8 95 00 00 57 95 17 NA NA
9-16 NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA
17-24 NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA
25-32 NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA

Satellite 101:
1-8 96 91 94 86 92 81 94 84
9-16 94 91 92 92 92 95 94 92
17-24 91 79 91 94 91 92 96 94
25-32 95 25 91 99 95 94 95 95

Satellite 110:
1-8 NA NA NA NA NA NA NA 92
9-16 NA 91 NA 92 NA NA NA NA
17-24 NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA
25-32 NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA

Satellite 119:
1-8 NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA
9-16 NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA
17-24 NA NA NA NA NA 95 99 96
25-32 60 96 97 95 00 97 00 97
I'm concerned about the 60, the 57, the 17, the 15... The others seem to be reasonable (80s or 90s). The two 99s in the chart are actually 100s - I didn't want to mess up the chart. ;-)

Those actually are pretty good numbers. My guess is the 15's and 57 are spotbeams aimed at your neighboring DMAs. Now, if they hold up during bad weather, you're gold.

Mine didn't fine tune using the approved procedure, but at least he peaked it higher (and perhaps good 'nuff) when I prompted him.
Thanks. I looked at this and found that a lot of the lower numbers were not even listed, so maybe they're not used or the numbers are actually "bleed through" or something. A few of those numbers in the 70s and 80s still bug me (I'm used to having all numbers in the 90s), but I guess I'll get over it.

Thanks to whomever moved this thread. The general DirecTV thread is a better place for it. My apologies. I only have the HR20 Q&A forum bookmarked (and wish vBulletin offered a feature to allow you to do a "New Posts" search only on specific sub-forums).
