Sorry if this isn't the Forum for this question. If it isn't please let me know and I will take it there.

Is there a digital recorder that will accept HDMI input from a source and record its content for later playback?

An example would be a Firestick or other streaming service device like that.

If so, who makes it.

Thanks.

There are 2 HD content recorders from Hauppauge.
Hauppauge - HD PVR 2
HAUPPAUGE HD PVR Pro 60

However, the PVR2 ive had almost 0% success in getting it to read anything via the HDMI input. I think Once i was able to use a VGA signal that I converted to HDMI that WOULD work, but i consider its hdmi input as useless.

The PVR Pro 60 only has HDMI and I've had much better success w/ it. It can record as a stand alone, or w/ the use of software on a computer. However, it does NOT like the Firestick.

Generally these devices will not capture content from sources that use HDCP encryption. aka: Firestick, Roku, Cable TV box, Sat Box. etc. Pretty much everything that use HDMI out is using HDCP encryption, the few exceptions would be a laptop which may or may not, and a gaming console such as Xbox/PS. The PVR Pro 60 seems to work fine on laptops, so if you can stream it on your laptop you should be able to capture it on it. However the PVR2 i've had 0 success getting any image from my laptop to its HDMI input. So whats the sollution?? well w/ the PVR-2 it WILL accept component video input as well, which of course is analog an thus un-encrypted. Problem is nothing these days comes w/. Component video outputs, so you'll need a video converter, to convert HDMI into Component video. Even still, I havent had a whole lot of success w/ Video converters an my Firestick. Ive been able to record content from my Roku, cable box, no problem using the video converter an the PVR-2, but the Firestick......i dunno, it just isnt playing nice . Fortuntely I dont need a video converter for my Sat box, as it still has Component video outputs. I did recently get a new converter which have not yet tried on the firestick, perhaps I'll give it a whirl an see.........

That's why more than a few of these "PVR" products are now called "Gaming Recorders".

Discussion of exploiting the "analog loophole" is largely wasted when the source is a streaming device (such as the FireTV Stick) with no analog outputs.

I wouldnt say largely as w/ a simple converter box the signal can be converted from HDMI to component. Component Video, while not 4k or even 1080p, can do up to 1080i
Have you tried running a FireTV stick off of a component converter?
