Back at it again looking at potential setups for SWM, Diplexing OTA, etc.

Now the issue is I have OTA in one area, and Satellite in another. So I have two different setup potentials and I am curious if you guys think they would work:

First, just simply diplexing in the OTA from the opposite location where the satellite comes in.

Then, diplexing in the OTA with a diplexer that has only the OTA input (can you do this?) into a splitter that already has the satellite feed coming in from the SWM that also has already gone through a diplexer to get the OTA from the splitter :eek2:



So would either of these work?

EDIT: PI for the SWM would be between the SWM and the first splitter.

Either one is fine conceptually. Splitters and combiners work in both directions, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Even though #1 might look really odd, in reality, everyone who uses an SWM and a splitter has this config, because the SWM passes down SAT signals at 900MHz (and higher) and simultaneously sends control signals up at 2MHz or so. So each thing you think of as a splitter is actually also acting as a combiner for control signals as they pass up to the SWM. Switched digital video cable systems work almost exactly the same as SWM, and any cable system with a PPV buy button also works the same (even analog ones).

In the second one is the diplexer on the OTA even needed?

I'm not sure how you can remove the diplexer on the left in the #2 config. It depends on what impedance the amplifier presents to >900MHz signals. My guess is it presents a very high impedance, thus making that whole left side a stub if you don't terminate it. A stub will both radiate signal to the air and cause signal reflections. To be safe, leave the diplexer in and screw a terminator on the SAT port of that diplexer.
