Direct tv better wake up

3626 Views 35 Replies 31 Participants Last post by  curt8403
I have been with Direct tv for over 6 years. If they dont offer FREE upgrades to my 2 tivo units to the new HD dvr from direct tv and a new hd stand alone receiver with free HD 5 lnb dish upgrade by December 2008, I will leave and switch to cable.
I am not alone I know many Direct tv subscribers who dont have the ability to receive the locals witrh just a dtv converter because we are too far from all networks. I am sure there are many people in the usa who will jump the direrct tv and dish network , btw, ship.

YOur ideas/comments??

You may want to search these threads under "deals", as there are a number of threads and posts indicating DirecTV has actively been providing those kinds of equipment exchanges. Many posters state they have been given such opportunities to upgrade....so I guess they woke up a bit ago. :D

Interesting, what is it you expect? you say upgrade of your Tivo Units. are they HR10 units? if not why would Directv give you HD units for your old (STandard Def) units
Many, many of us have been offered that. Look around.
Following is a link that discusses the current free HD swap offer they are currently running.

I believe it's open to everyone with old DirecTV HD equipment.
Give them a call. I called last week and asked for a HR21 and they wanted to give me 4 of them, 2 H21s, a slimline dish, and intstallation all for free. They didn't even want shipping.
As long as you have an HD DirecTIVO, they should offer you an upgrade deal.

If you only have the standard DirecTIVO's, they're still supported and DirecTV is under no obligation to upgrade those.
Look at the OP's location. Maybe D* doesn't offer his locals yet in HD. Just a guess.

icr2002 - I had a HDTiVo (HR10) and an old Sony HD200 STB. I called D* and got a very nice CSR in their W. Virginia call center. The call took about 20 minutes and I got a new HR21-700 and a new H21 plus installation of the Slimline 5-LNB dish. No charge. Good luck to you.

Go with the company that meets your needs for programming and gives you the best deal. You can always come back to DirecTV if you don't like the other company and they'll probably give you a sweetheart deal to do so after you have been away for a few months to a year.

They have very crappy audio circuts in them. They all have audio hiss and very low volume when watching on chanel 3 o4. I have tried 3 D10s and they all failed in these areas. I have gotten a credit for the unit and have gone back to my very reliable Hughes GAEBO's.

YOU ARE FORE WARNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The OP has posted numerous posts of the type quoted above, so obviously he has D10 or Hughes units, which DirecTV will probably not exchange for him. I hope he enjoys his switch to cable.
Oh good. Another post from someone threatening to quit DirecTV unless they get something for free. Maybe they should be asking you for some extra money to demonstrate how much you appreciate them for providing you with programmng those 6 years.
Cable TV will likely have a higher per-month cost for each receiver that you get from them .. so in less than a year, you will likely be spending more on the receivers with Cable than you would have with the up-front fee and monthly charges with DIRECTV.

I say you should go to cable. See ya. Enjoy that. Cable around here is substandard!Good luck
It sounds like the OP believes his SD locals will go away when the digital changover happens.
I'd say shop around. My initial set up consisted of a Direct Tivo R10. I called and called and called and none of the CSRs would budge. I did not want to give up Direct TV so I just went to Ebay and saved 55 bucks on an HDDVR and my dish was upgraded to a 5lnb for free. Do I feel that being a 3 year customer, I should have some type of discount while new customers are getting everything for free, maybe, but this isn't a perfect world. If you want it, go get it.
Enjoy the Cable TV

....not to mention less HD choices in many cases.
As others have mentioned, you should be able to get free upgrades on the Tivo units as long as your account is in good standing.
If you were getting a new HD DVR which version would you prefer? I have 2 HR20-100's and HR20-700. I don't need OTA!
