Direct Tv sales reps confused?

Ok, so please give me a sanity check before I pull the trigger on a new order...

I "think" I need 2 HR boxes to handle 2 tv locations that require pausing and rewinding the live streams at both locations. My thought was basically, set up a DVR at each location, and I'd be able to share recordings through MRV.

When I called to order, and explained to the rep that I have UVerse and can pause live tv on both sets, she went into detail on HMC with 5 tuners and a plain HD receiver at location 2, and that was providing the same functionality...

Now, being around the boards a while, I thought that I'd actually need a HMC and another HR to do that, but when asking specific questions, she insisted I was wrong, and that even though I don't have a Samsung TV (RVU client), and even though I would have a standard receiver, i could pause live tv on the second tv...

Did I take a large blow to the head and miss something? I thought the only way to do that would be to go in and start recording the current channel on TV 2, then play it back through MRV to be able to pause... That's not exactly the same thing, and not at all a workaround I'm interested in...

Thanks,
j

You need a dvr to pause live tv. If you get an HMC and a standard HD receiver, you cannot pause live tv on the standard HD receiver. You can pause any program being viewed via MRV on the standard HD receiver.

You would need 2 HR's or an HMC and an HR to pause live on both TV's.

thanks for the feedback... I thought I was being bamboozled... Looks like I'll be playing CSR roulette over lunch...
With a DVR and a non-DVR receiver, you could set a show to record, then start watching the recording right away (on the receiver). That way you would have the ability to pause, rewind, etc., and would only be a few seconds behind live. Not the best solution but a usable one.

True, it is usable, but for me, one of the biggest wins with a DVR is the live buffer... (And a huge frustration for UVerse for me, as it automatically turns off the feed when the tv signal is lost...)

We always would set the TV to our local morning news channel before bed the night before, and when we wake up, could rewind the buffer to catch the weather and highlights quickly...

Well, figured I should post the conclusion to my story (I hope, not through installation yet, and basically require a pole mount... Had a note added to order to hopefully prep the installer, and asked them to call the day ahead to discuss...).

After a little roulette, managed to get the new customer offer, 2 HD DVR's ($74 upfront, $25 credit to first bill, so $49 for the second HD DVR). Hopefully everything goes in smoothly from here...

Was a customer since 2001, and left for 23 months for what it's worth...
