To Tivo users this may be familiar.

My prior to Direct TV (3 HD Tivo's) all networked together mixed wired / wireless format - all able to support transferring programs through the network and here is the important for me bit. Using Pytivo etc I am able to download form my NAS a variety of transcoded (to Mpeg2) Movies , Video Files UK Programming and home / vacation movies.

Question Does the new directtvtivo preserve this capability : The home networking of the HR34 is very poor for video. It's fine for photos etc but I have 4Tb of a variety of videos that I cannot access using the HR34 (Almost everything exceeds the Home Networking Size Limitations) , also can the Directtvtivo transfer programming from an HD series 3 Tivo?

Not a "fix" but a good work around is to install TVersity on the file hosting computer/ this will will transcode your videos ion the fly so that the HR34's media share feature will allow their playback.

You cannot hack the THR22 so the network functions you're use to will not be available to you.

Yes the Tversity work around is ok , but it's a pig to use on the other end Tivo's file sort and date stack is so much better.. I'll give it another try though see if I can train the spouse?

That stuff won't work with the new TiVo. You can download TiVo desktop for some multimedia capability.

Talked at length to my aftermarket Tivo mod-der , he is of the opinion that the new Tivo is severely compromised to make it interface for Direct TV It wont allow connectivity to about any external video source

That's true.
