Hello all,
My wife wants a mp3 player for Christmas. The plans for Directv2go really interest me. I know there is nothing that my HR-20 can do now, but I was wondering if any of the current portable players plan to be compatible with the 2go feature. I dont think the ipod will be. Looks like the Toshiba gigabeat plays windows media stuff. Is that going to be the format? Any insight would be great..

It is too soon to tell. Over at Dish Network, they licensed the Archos players for their similar PocketDish service.

Directv 2 Go was talked about initially with the RCA Lyra X3000.

Below are the video playback formats it supports:
AVI, WMV, XviD, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX 4.0, DivX 5.0, MPEG-4 SP

Get a device that supports the major ones, like MPEG-4 and WMV.

From what I've seen in the media players, I'd get the Microsoft Zune. Directv, Microsoft, and the xbox360 have been rumored for some time.

Before you flame, I've had an ipod photo for awhile. The screen is to small, it scratches way to easy, and the click wheel is to sensitve for me.

Can't hurt to get Microsoft's portable media player IMO. The screen looks impressively tough.

Good luck in your hunt!
