Testing has been completed aboard DirecTV 4S, a new spot-beam satellite that will support the DBS provider's carriage of local TV stations. All systems are performing as expected on the spacecraft, the company said.
The satellite, a Boeing 601HP model, is being maneuvered into position at the company's primary orbital slot at 101 degrees. DirecTV 4S is scheduled for hand-over by its manufacturer Boeing on Dec. 21 and will begin transmission of nearly 400 local channels to 41 markets on Dec. 27, DirecTV said.
DirecTV 4S was launched from Arianespace's Guiana Space Center on Nov. 26. It's a big part of DirecTV's effort to meet federal must-carry requirements by the Jan. 1 deadline.
