Had someone call me about their service going out. Earlier that day i saw 2 directv vans at the same apartment complex.....hmm....only has one dish there.

YEAH, MY dish that I put there on a non pen for MY customer.

Get there later that day, the corp guys showed up and saw 2 apartments on this dish. They unhooked my installed apartment and left my customer without service. Huh? Ok..... since its MY non pen and dish....wtf?

Some other installer was stealing off my dish for apartment number 2. So O&O shows up and cuts off service to a customer? What on earth kind of training do these guys get?

The problem was that both apartments had 4 room with dvr service, so 10 tuners.

I have no idea how they justified cutting off someones service.

I though about unhooking apartment #2 from the dish and putting a note on it that this is apartment #1's dish, please leave alone!

Not sure what to do so i called the local office, the manager kinda acted stupid and said "well i think it needs a swm 16" .....REALLY?? SO why didnt the two truck rolls that were there FIX the problem instead of make it worse???? So instead of installing a swm 16 they both thought that removing service from the original apartment was the good idea????

Technically speaking, Certified Installers are the only ones allowed to do installations PERIOD.

As far as apartments go, if they're not using a legacy switch, or a SWiM32 with a dedicated power supply, they should NOT share ODU's.

Around here an unmarked ODU is fair game. I always marked the ODU with date and apt number.

Guess this IS what a trained and certified DirecTV installer does, instead of some "fly by night" hack does.

You either had:

- a lazy tech, or

- apartment management who was directing things, and insisted on using the existing dish. I've been places before where this was the only way management would sign off, and if the customer has no balcony/patio, or doesn't have LOS from there, then you have to do what management asks.

Of course, I'd never cut off an existing customer...
