I have recently noticed something new from Directv, Directv Cinema. What is it? Is it worth getting a connection kit? Is it an additional cost per month? Is it the same as the other media devices like Roku, etc. Can I hook up my computer and surf the internet on my tv with it? Can I surf the internet at all with it.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

It depends on your system. If you have a single HD-DVR and it's near your computer you can connect it to the internet via ethernet cable off your router. If not you will need the Cinema Connection Kit. If you have whole home you will need a wireless router and the Cinema Connection Kit. Connecting you receiver to the internet will provide access to VOD, YouTube, TVApps, Pandora (providing your receiver was updated to 0x59e) and allow you to listen to music and view video and photos off your PC.

Connecting to your router will also allow you to use the iPad app to control your receiver and stream live TV to the iPad. You can also use DirecTV2PC, which allows playback of recorded programs on your PC.

Yeah, I over looked those features but I think the OP will get the general idea of what's available.

IMHO it's well worth it, unlocks a lot of extra things and makes the DVR really worth having. If you are on the SWM system I recommend the Cinema Connection Kit or the Wireless version as it will connect all of the receivers (HD or HD DVR) to the internet!

DirecTV Cinema is the sexy new name for ordinary PPV.

There is a Cinema Connection Kit(CCK) that connects the receiver(s) to your existing broadband internet service and allows you to download or stream On-Demand shows and movies, in addition to other features.
