DirecTV's HR20-300 is a 300-GB HD-DVR that's capable of receiving and storing the latest MPEG-4 high-definition satellite broadcasts available in the United States. The HR20-300 works in conjunction with four dedicated DirecTV KaKu band High-Definition Satellites that will deliver up to 150 HD channels nationwide during 2007. The compression technology used by MPEG-4 also allows DirecTV to deliver up to 1,500 local HD channels...

And I think they are calling it the HR20-300 because of the 300 GB HDD inside.

I think it has the ability to be the best but not quite there yet. They must have gotten theirs for free...:D

It seems a little silly to offer such an award to the HR20. Maybe, like the Motor Trend COY award, it is offered only to a product that is substantially new. Even with that in mind, I can't imagine how it beat out the TiVo S3.

Maybe they awarded it based on D*'s marketing hype. The fact that D*'s future programming offerings entered into the conversation may be confirmation of that.

As HD DVRs go, it is not substantially better than the Dish Network ViP622 nor the TiVo S3 unless the criteria is that it must function with DirecTV programming.

The "article" was written the first week of September.
Before the Series 3 was available.

It would seem that they jumped the gun then. The kudos are based on what is obviously a very cursory look. A lot of people thought the DeLorean was going to take the World by storm. Instead, it proved to be the second coming of the Edsel.

I especially enjoyed the $400 price point.

Makes you wonder how many of their other picks were so carelessly chosen.

Already done. It's called an HR10. It records what you tell it to in HD without drama, unlike the HR20, that appears to be in the running for the "Drama Queen of the Year" award..............

They need a "Highest in overall satisfaction" award.

All joking aside, I like the HR20, although I wouldn't say its any better (or worse) than any other HD DVR I've used (but I've only used 3 or 4).
