Directv in Ecuador South America

My Aunt, a teacher in Ecuador (originally from the states) has Directv, as do I in the states. She has a nice selection of channels, not as much as we do but a nice selection. I was considering perhaps bringing a dish and hd box from the states down here to install.

My question, will she have line of sight to the same satellites that we use in the states, and could this theoretically be accomplished? She is south of the equator, that why I question if the line of sight. I was gona try and configure the long/lat when I get home to just see if it would recognize those coordinates.

Any help would be great, I hope this works, she misses her WGN and other channels she used to watch.

How did she get service down there originally?

If she is on directvla the service is different...
Its a service of its own, they offer service down here as well as Peru (I'm down here right now thats the only reason I know) I don't know which satellites it hits as the setup guide is different than we have, been playing with it the last couple of days. I was trying to figure if maybe it was the international satellites that we have at home. I used to install the dishes so I can do it myself, as long as it'll will SEE the satellites that we use. I just don't know where the satellites we use are positioned, obviously southwest but not sure how far south. That would make all the difference.
It is illegal to try and receive US TV service outside of the USA, so I am sure this topic will be locked soon.

The deal is that the signals are on the fringe and it may or may not work with a big enough dish. I highly doubt it would work with a standard setup from here in the US as the dishes here are meant for being in the prime view of the satellites (except for HI and AK that require larger dishes).

I hate to be like that, as I get the situation, but the truth is that it is against the law.
I figured as much, thanks for the heads up. All I want to get is good tv service for my aunt. And all I need is the right information. Its kinda of silly, but you know how that works.
The sats we use in the US have their transponders pointed north. Think of spot beams, but wide spot beams covering CONUS. You may see the sats from there, but they won't be talking to you.
If she has a high speed internet connection, get a Slingbox for your US installation, and she can watch one of your receivers on a computer in Ecuador through your US high speed internet connection. Your upload speed is critical.

It's against US law to do so. But funny thing, once you leave the US, the US law doesn't apply.

It is however against the D* terms of service, which is why such talk isn't allowed on this board.
WGN. Cubs fan are we? Really for her, or for you?

I do already have that setup, and have been trying to use it down here...the problem I have is it isn't working. I'm not sure if its the connection or what. Any help on that would be greatly appreciated

You'd better PM me about that, since that could get into a lengthy troubleshooting process. But the first question I would ask is if you have successfully accessed your Slingbox anywhere remotely before, or have you just used it on your home network?
I have accessed in Peru and the Galapagos, but not here. I imagine there might be a firewall that is stopping me from accessing. Any help would be great. Thanks for responding. I wanted to leave her with it installed on her computer so she can watch it from the box at my house.

Do you have someone at the Chicago end to confirm your PC is still online. You need IP addresses to confirm machines can ping each other and have connectivity.
Does she have like a 35 foot dish or something ? I somehow dont think the 1 meter phase3 is gonna work.....
