I have a spare d12 that is subscribed. I want to use it in my rv. I have an old dish 500 dish. Can I put a directv legacy lnbf on the dish will it work properly? I'm mainly wondering if the focal length will be wrong.

If that won't work Can I mount the lnbf on an old primestar dish and have it work?

As you may have guessed I do not have a directv dish lying around.

Thanks,

Bill

You might not even need to swap the LNB. I think the basic Dish is the same as the single LNB dish. I'd try it as it stands.

I know the primestar won't work. Very wrong focal length. :)

Cheers,

A DirecTV single LNB will fit on a Dish dish, even with a Y-adapter, and will work fine. Having said that, if you check Craigslist, I bet you can find a cheap or even free DirecTV basic dish. Lots of old ones are being replaced these days.

Just check out my AVITAR.

That's two dual DirecTV lnb's mounted on a Dish500 plastic adapter and arm.

The reflector or dish is a Phase III pan.

You have to sand or grind away the boss on the floor plastic adapter, where each lnb is mounted.

The feeds are for 110 and 119 using two SW21 outputs to a dual tuner Dish 322 receiver.

Almost everything is salvaged from old installs, that were taken down, including one lnb that had a UV deteriorated cover. I replaced the cover with one from an OLD RCA Sharp Made single lnb.

The plastic shrouds on the lnb's have been removed, but they could be used with the covers intact.

Not exactly the situation mentioned by the original poster, but I just wanted to show how the parts can be compatible.

I once used a Dish500 for 101 and 110 DirecTV with a 110 Sat C lnb and a tone switch, without the combiner. At one time, in my DMA, locals were on 119, and the customer did not need 119.

I've attached some photos.

If it is an earlier Dish 500 (not DishPro) there are two separate LNBs (2 outputs each) and you can use one of them for 101 without problems (without the SW21, of course). The pointing would be different than what the receiver tells, since they are both offset.

Thank you for your replies. I did fail to mention that it is a Dish 500 dish. Its lnbf is a Dish Pro so I gather its usless for what I want to do. The Directv lnbf I wish to use is an old RCA with 2 connectors on it. I will attempt to mount the RCA lnbf to the dish and find out what I get. If all elese fails I'll hunt up an old D* dish.

Thanks again,

Bill

Juse set the skew on the Dish500 to zero. Sand or cut away the bottom boss on either one of the bottom plastic lnb mount. Mount the lnb with the old screw, set the elevation and install as you would a DirecTV 18 inch round dish. Run the cable to the receiver from either port of the lnb.

Years ago I moved into a house that a dual lnb Dish dish and RG6 run to where I wanted to place my two tuners when I moved in. I removed one of the lnb's and hooked the cables straight to the one remaining lnb. Set the skew to 0 and re aimed...because the offset is not the same, I just "found" the satellite by moving it around. It worked great for years. Now that I have HD and 7 tuners so I don't use it anymore.

I have 2 18" dual LNB's sitting in my garage, new last year. Being a newbie, I'm not 100% sure they are what you need, but if they are they are yours for the taking. PM me if interested......
