I just called DirecTv asking about what they had to offer to somewhat match Dish Tv's 1 cent for Cinemax for a year. I was able to get Showtime/Starz free for 3 months( I think that this offer was out there no matter what) also got $10 off my bill for a Year plus another HD-DVR free. Though I already have the 5 LNB dish and 1 HD-DVR, I figured that getting another free was a good deal and I can use in my bedroom in the future.

Yes a Free HD/DVR, they setup an appointment for it to be delivered tomorrow(7/26).Yes I am still under a 2yr contract that I got last Aug. when I upgraded my old dish to the new 5 LNB and an added the a HR20-100 to replace my HR10-250 which I moved to my bedroom. Even though I don't a HD-TV in my bedroom at the moment I'll soon be moving the one in my Living Room to my bedroom and getting a new HD-TV for Living room. I even mentioned to the CSR that I didn't have a 2nd HD-TV at the moment but she said it Free you should get it so I did. I didn't have agree to any "New" 2 yr contract, it just wait and see if the setup guys do show up tomorrow with a new HD-DVR. I don't even want it activated at the moment just hope they show up and hand it to me.

You were an existing D* customer and they gave you a 2nd free HD-DVR? Was it part of an upgrade from an old HR10-250 (or whatever it was called)?

They may have if so they didn't ask me or tell me I have to extend my contact another 2 yrs. However, if they did extend it not that big a deal to me there is really no good cable option in my town so I'd keep DirecTv anyhow.

Yes I am an Existing customer. I wouldn't think it a part of upgrade plan since I did the original upgrade from the HR10-250 a year ago and at that time they changed me to the New Dish and gave me the HR20-100 at that time for Free also.

they wont do that. you will have to have it activated. it will still work on an SD tv, youll just have to use the composite or s-video outputs.

I am hoping the New one is a Black model(I think DirecTv has those). If so I can go ahead and move my Silver H20-100 to my bedroom and use S-Video feed to my old TV and then move the old HR10-250 to a TV I have in the Kitchen Nook which at the Present time just has a Std. Receiver. I might just deactivate the HR10-250 I really don't need more than 3 receivers active at once.

I just checked my "Orders/Installations" for my Account online and it has the Scheduled install tomorrow listed as "Swap/Replace HR20". I'm not letting them Swap/replace the HR20 because my wife has many recorded programs on it that she hasn't watched. I am hoping the "Swap/Replace" thing is just how it has to be listed for the order to be processed

The H20 is not a DVR, so your wife won't have anything recoreded on it. You will be safe from her wrath.

I just called D* to check on this and they laughed. They said the best they could do would be $99 plus handling charge. I didn't think so but figured why not try can always use extra one.
I won't believe I actually get a 2nd HD-DVR until I have it in my hands and they haven't taken my present HR20-100(which I won't let happen). I got no problem if they De-activate my old HR10-250 in my bedroom and place the New HR20 there but I "own" the HR20-250 it not "leased" though DirecTv so they ain't getting it.

it sounds like what they are doing. theyre notgiving you another receiver, they are "upgrading" you to an HD DVR from your SD DVR..theyve been doing that a lot for people that call in.

I do have 1 Std. receiver however I really don't want to deactivate it because I at times take this receiver out on my deck to watch TV. Also I use this receiver to take to Football Tailgating parties where I hook it to my Portable Dish. I wouldn't really want to use a DVR for this purpose because I hate the thought of moving around a unit that has a Hard Drive it.

OK, the install guy just left and I received the Black HD-DVR. I just had him deactivate my old HR10-250 and place the New Receiver in my bedroom for the time meaning. Once my wife gets done watching stuff on the Silver HR20 in the living room I'll move the Black HD-DVR into the living room to match my other Surround sound components. I found something interesting though when I went to DirecTv site to check out my new setup. It shows the Showtime and Starz channels at $0 and there is a note on each "3 Months Free" on each. It also has Cinemax listed(which didn't even know they turned on) at $0 but there no "3 Months Free" reference. I guess I need to keep an eye on Cinemax to see what happens.
