I am moving next week. Currently I have a Slimline 5 dish with a non SWM multiswitch. I have and HR20-700 and HR21-700.

The place I am moving to has a dish already in place however it's a Slimline 3 SWM. I planned on upgrading to SWM anyways but would I lose channels going from 5 lnb to 3 since I wouldnt pickup the 119 or 110 sats? Or wuld it just be best for the DTV installer to bring out a 5lnb SWM and replace the 3lnb?

Hmm well one of my locals.....channel 33 (My Network) here in ft lauderdale .....which i watch alot hasnt gone HD with directv yet so I only get the SD version. Wonder if that channel is on 119 (I suppose the installer wuld know that eh?)

Also I read somewhere that guide data comes from the 119 sat. If the installer chose to use the 3lnb dish which sat does the guide data come down from?

Guide data on an SWM system comes from 101.

As to your local channel, you would have to go to the resources here on this forum, find the list of locals in locals, and search that list for the call letters of your My Network station, and it will tell you what satellite it is on. If you are in an mpeg4 market, it will be on the "HD" satellite even though its SD.

Looks like all your locals are on 101 and the HD sats, so all you will lose is a couple sonic tap channels.

Miami local sd channels are on 101. I'm surprised you have a 5 lnb at all.

Guide data is actually streamed from both 101 and 119 simultaneously, but SWiM installs only use the main 101 stream. The 119 mirror is used for non-SWiM legacy installs so receivers can access guide info. while tuned to the 110 (unused), 119, or 103 satellites.

Note: The non-SWiM SL-3 LNB always uses 101 for guide data as well even when tuned to a satellite at 103.

Thanks for the info. Well I have the 5lnb b/c i have the same dish that was installed back in april 2007.
I thought you said that the new place already has a Slimline3 SWM dish installed? No need to use that old 5-LNB Slimline then.

Yah the landlord told me the apartment i am moving into has that dish on it ..........as it turns out after further investigation that slimline 3 dish is installed into the apartment next to the one i'm moving into. So unfortunately i'm going to have to have an install done.

And i'm not using the dtv movers connection b/c down here they use Mastec and I have had nothing but bad experiences with them. Poor attitude. 2-3 visits each time to get the install right. One time they showed up and didnt even have the correct equipment. I'd rather just pay a private contractor and get the job done right (without attitude) the first time. I already had a guy come out and look at the place ahead of time so he knows exactly all the equipment he needs to bring out to do the install. It's sort of tricky b/c he's got to use one of those under the eve mounts.

BTW what channels come down from 110?

I'm curious from what i've been reading the slimline 3lnb dish is the typical directv install yet someone said in an earlier reply that 30 sonic tap music channels wuld be missing with that install.

Now while i never listen to sonic tap and dont need those channels............why would dtv send out installers with slimline 3 dishes knowing customers wuld be losing 30 music channels that they offer???

Their long term plans probably are to decommission the 119 satellite when they have the 99/101/103 slots filled with satellites, so they are saving some cost in using a 3 bird lnb vs the 5. A lot of those 30 sonic tap channels are commercial and/or latin american package channels anyway.

Thats what I'm thinking;

Those Sonic Tap channels on 119 probably fall into genres DIRECTV feels subscribers to LA packages would mostly be interested in.
