DirecTV Swap - Question

Good afternoon all,

I am taking advantage of DirecTVs swap out for my HR10-250 and will get an unspecified HD DVR.

But this is the question...

I am not currently using my HR10-250 and neglected to cancel the service on that DVR, but since it is still active in Directv's system I get a free swap. Now, I will be placing the new DVR in the back room where I do not have an HDTV, but only have an analog 27 inch TV.

Will I still be able to use this new DVR with this Analog TV??...I just will not be able to watch any of the HD channels, but still can watch the rest of them right?

Sometime in the next year I will get another HDTV for that room and figured I best take advantage while it is free.

I appreciate your help!

The box works great on an analog set. I crop the image to fit the screen on HD channels and have outstanding picture quality.
Yes you can use an HD DVR with an SD TV.

You have two options 1) Set it up for a single LNB dish and only the SD channels will show in the guide. Then set the unit to 480i only and 4x3. 2) Set it to 480i only and 4x3 just like option one but if you have it set for an 5 LNB dish you will be able to watch the HD channels but they will be in letter box and down-converted to 480i.
Great Info!

I have the 5 LNB dish so why not use the capability! Excellent!

I was confusing the CSR because I was trying to get her to swap out my HR10-250 and then have the tech install the new DVR on this TV in the back room that has the R15 Receiver/DVR, but she said they cannot do that (total BS).

In order to make things simple, I will get the new DVR from the Tech and then swap out it out with the R15 and then cancel the R15 on my account.

Still saving money in the long run....well eventually! I think...lol
If that TV only has a coax input, then no it will not work as the H/HR series does not have a coax output. If it has composite, s-video, component or HDMI, then it will work.

Robert is correct but you could also pick up a RF modulator for about $20 to make it work.
A very good info one again!

My TV has S-video, coax and composite video only.

There is no S video on the new HD DVRs??/ Perhaps that is too old school.

Hmmm so I may need an RF modulator. Ok...sounds reasonable.

Yes the HR2x's have an S-Video out.

They have HDMI, component video, S-Video, and composite video, just no RF output.

I know..I know....:)

Just trying to hold off for awhile longer on purchasing a new HDTV for the back room, while still contemplating purchasing a 60 inch Pioneer Kuro for the front room to replace my 58 inch DLP.

Unfortunately, the 58 inch DLP will not fit in the back room.

There you go! That would solve everything! But then again....I may over do it and buy a quite larger house with a huge room and have to get a 65 incher instead! :D
Hi there,

Well, DirecTV came today and gave me an HR-100 for my HR10-250 DVR ......(which he did not take at all). I even offered for him to take it and he said if it was leased, he would take it, but my unit was not leased.

So now what should I do with the HR10-250? Doubt I could sell it now! Would make a good paper weight!

Thanks!
