DirecTV / Viiv Quick Start Guide

Here's the link in case anyone would like to see it...

http://forums.directv.com/pe/RepositoryFileDownloadServlet/10180530/DIRECTV_ViiV_Final_SM.pdf

The software section talks only about the Viiv server, but there's some good info on networking and the HR20 operation.

Also - note that it does promise streaming video in the future!

What's up with the black HR20? Did I miss that announcement?

Not sure if it's an older one or a newer one!
It's most likely a unit that only developers and other special people at DirecTV get. Nothing going to resale.

wish mine was black...........stupid silver
It a newer one, that is not avialable yet.

It is the identical unit, underneath the shell..

No ETA on when it will be available.
what a shame... that sleek black bezel sure would compliment my Pioneer plasma. :(

YAYAY! Glad I was wrong. Hopefully we get another manufacturer on board so DirecTV can keep up with the strong demand. MINE!

So does this mean DirecTV is going back to the all black look or is this just special for the HR20?

Earl

Is this the $50 wireless part we would need to buy at Best Buy to connect to our Wireless-g networks?

EDIT- See Earl's corrected link below:

It is also known as a gaming adapter, as it was made popular with the XBOX and PS2

Two words: Spray Paint! :D
First, black components were "in", then it's been silver for the longest time, now it looks like it's going back to black... how about blue? I'd like a blue color similar to the HR20 lights.

I think there's even a new color: graphite (sort of looks like stainless but blacker). I saw some kitchen appliances that color at Home Depot the other day.

You're right, though. It's an evil merry-go-round with the colors. In five years, the new HR20-700xl will probably come in candy-apple red and avocado green.

I just went to Best Buy and bought it!

Is it possible that this will be as simple as just plugging it in and the network will find it?

Thanks again for suggesting the adapter!

Depends on the Bridge or Gaming Adapter. I have a Buffalo Wireless Bridge that required some configuration of both the wireless settings and also of the local network.

A lot will depend on how secure you have your wireless access point/router. If you are not broadcasting SSID, have WEP enabled, or MAC address limitations or dare say all three you will have to configure the adapter.

Good luck!

I want mine dark blue with white SS racing stripes.
