Hi,

Sorry for the bad thread title; couldn't come up with a quick way to summarize the issue. Anyway, my wife and I almost exclusively watch recorded content. For that reason, I'd prefer the receiver to not play live TV unless I explicitly tune to it.

The issue pops up, say, on a Thursday night: we might be watching old Cash Cabs and Daily Shows, and the DVR is recording both 30 Rock and Big Bang Theory. When a recorded show ends, in the time between when we delete it and when we play a new episode of something else, live TV will be playing in the small video square at full volume. And, of course, that live TV is one of the shows that I'm recording to watch later -- I don't want to spoil the episode by hearing it while it's playing live.

I'd prefer to just have the DirecTV screen saver running if I haven't intentionally tuned to live TV.

Just to be clear, this is way down there in "minor annoyance" territory, but I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do about it. Any tips?

Thanks.

Since most recorded shows typically record slightly to the beginning of the next I usually just remember to hit pause at end of a recorded show before it runs out, then go into the playlist and select the next recorded show I wish to view. Therefore live TV never has a chance to come up in the PIG between watching recorded shows.

Now that's a solution and a half!

Another possibility might be to first tune to a neutral station- PBS? Sonic Tap? that won't tip off anything, but might provide interim entertainment. Kinda depends when/how you set your recordings, though.

Great question.

Not possible to tune to another channel. Both channels are recording programs for the future. Neither is wanted in the PIG.

Thanks all.

HoTat - I like your idea, but at what point do you delete the program you just finished?
Except for one time recordings which I go back and delete at any convenient time later, the watched episodes from the series links for the most part I simply let them auto-delete when they exceed the number I set for the series "keep" limit.

The pother solution to all this is use your ipad to start recordings at the end of a show and then after the next recording has started, delete the one you just finished from your ipad, and you will never even have to deal with the pig/pil.
