Yes it's early, but Discovery HD is now available on the 148 satellite!

Also, as of the first of the month, there will be no commercial interuptions!

Both good news!

I'm assuming that it's on 9420 in the 8psk format? Sounds like it's time for me to place my order.
Yes Mark thats correct.

If you call Dish Network they have a pre written script that tells you Effective Imediately, Discovery HD is available from the 148 orbital location.

There is talk over at AVS about this. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=155461

Enjoy!
Scott, have you heard if the programming is going to change, or are they going to continue looping every 3 hrs and repeating the same content? I've seen about everything they have shown so far and do not wish to subscribe if the programming doesn't change regularly.

Thanks.
Still 3 hours repeating over and over.

I thought I would hate this but it lets me catch all the programs. :)

Discovery HD only has 100 hours of HD programming at the present time, but they have receieved an excellent response so far so I hear they are planning to ramp things up.

The no commercial breaks is good news. :)

Oops

Where did you read about the no commercials? Is that no commericals ever?
James they are airing commercials on Discovery HD between shows that state as of the first of the month there will be no commerical interuptions of the shows.

I would expect that between shows we will still have commercials. Which is OK I like the movie trailers anyways. :)

Ahhhh. That's why it cost so much. Producing HD content and not running commercials...
Sounds like pay-TV ;)
Actually Scott, they have 120 TITLES in their library, not hours.

And the bad news is: I can't watch it after August 1. Well, I could but I don't want to fork out the money until I have real HDTV. I am using my computer monitor now and even though I get an awesome picture, I just can't see sitting in front of it all night to watch TV.
Here's another update.

The free "preview" on 9443 @61.5 will be extended until 8/14.

Presumably that will give more potential Disc HD subs to sample it & will keep those waiting for the "Enhanced HD" module from missing anything.
They are probably extending the free preview because they ran out of the 8PSK modules... As of the 15th they were expecting a two week backorder. I suspect that they did not anticipate this much demand for HDTV... Maybe it will get them to add more channels.

I called again last Thursday and they said it should be in stock at the end of this week.
I love HD, but not dedicated enough to pay $7.99 a mo for one channel. I have a feeling Discovery will get over it after they realize only 500 customers out of 7m signed up for it.
Yeah HD is a super expensive service. Other than early adopters how many others would pay so much for so little?

Yeah maybe porn.....
Saw on Discovery Hd tonight that they said there will be no commercial breaks after the 29th July. :)

In Las Vegas, Cox's initial lineup includes 7 channels in high
definition:

-- The local CBS and PBS affiliates, available at no additional
charge for customers leasing an HD set-top box,

-- Two HBO channels in high definition, available at no
additional charge to current HBO customers leasing an HD
set-top box,

-- Two Showtime channels in high definition, available at no
additional charge to current Showtime customers leasing an HD
set-top box, and

-- Discovery High Definition Theater, available for an additional
$5 per month to current digital cable customers leasing an HD
set-top box.

The Hd is to much money. No way am I going to pay that much for one channel.
:hi: Welcome GwMontee!

I agree Discovery HD is really expensive for what it offers. I subscribed to it for a year because I felt I had to support HD. The big disapointment with Discovery HD is the lack of programming.

I have already seen everything already. :(

But the wow factor for friends makes it worth it I guess. :)
I'm on day 3 now of having D-HD, and at the moment for me, it's still very much worth the cost...But I haven't seen every show yet. Of course, I'm to the point that I'll watch anything bad (or repeated) in HD over anything in SD.
I agree, the first three channels I look for something on is DHDT, HBO and Showtime in HDTV. It is really getting to be annoying having that PPV channel between DHDT and Showtime. They need to move it.
Mike, I definitely agree with that!
