Dish 1000 post-installation Questions
This past Friday I had Dish upgrade me for HD. This is the first time I’ve let Dish touch anything – all the previous installs/upgrades I had done myself. Actually it went quite smooth (started w/the installer actually showing up 2 hours -early-), I was disappointed in the decrease of the signal strength (I had previously peaked almost all transponders at over 110 and several pegged at 125 – I very, very rarely had rain fade, unlike my neighbors) but was aware that it would happen.
Two issues came up that I am now questioning.
1) I previously had 2 dishes; the Dish 500 110/119 and one at 61.5 from back when about ½ of my Chicago locals were there. They went through legacy 21 switches with each receiver (a 510 and a 301) getting one RG-6 run of cable. I was under the impression that when the Dish 1000 was installed all that would also need to be changed would be a single DP Plus 44 switch in place of my two 21 switches; all cable runs would remain the same. The installer made a huge deal of all the extra work and cabling required in addition to the switch, and talked me out of the need for the 61.5 (AT60 and HD pack for now). Was I correct that my install only require a DP Plus 44 switch? Would extra cables need to have been run? Am I missing anything by not having the 61.5 (I know it’s mainly used for international stations – but is there anything else?)
2) When I ordered the upgrade I specifically asked if I had to trade in my existing 510 receiver (I had paid for it in a previous upgrade – it’s not a lease) and was told no; suddenly yesterday UPS drops an empty receiver box off with nothing inside except a return label. Are they expecting me to return my “owned” 501 receiver? Do I have to return it? If so, is it possible to return another older receiver instead of my 510?
